Title: Girlfriends(/partners) & BF2
Post by: Ranger on July 27, 2005, 10:01:00 AM
I know this is a little 'OT' but I guess it's something that affects us all...

I am VERY lucky - in that I have a girlfriend that works as a barmaid (double whammy!), so I have a lot of evenings to myself.

Despite this, or because of this, we have agreed 'quality time' evenings where I don't play, and watch a girly film or go for a walk with my 'better half'...yadda, yadda, yadda!

How does everyone else cope?

Or is BF2 causing tensions! LOL

I'm married with young twins. Over the last several years, we formed a  a general rule of thumb that I play games on Wed and Sun nights (Which are the AFK AOK:TC game nights). We go out on Fri or Sat night and spend the other nights together. However if she's watching some particularly girlie thing on the telly I'll usually slink off to the soho for some more gaming.

Alhtough she has no interest in gaming she does appreciate that it's an important part of my life so doesn't mind too much - Heck she even came along to the last LAN.

It can be hard (but essential) to balance one's RL and VL

You guys coming to the next one?

My misses being a teacher means that she often has work todo which frees me up for a fair amount of gaming time. Everything in our routin is planned, god forgive me if i ever stray from the "list".

my gf and I live in different cities atm, so during the week I have little to do but play games or go to the pub or whatever with friends/housemates etc... On weekends I have no desire to play computer games :D

Interesting thread mate :)

I'm married too and have an agreement with my wife that I have Sunday nights and one other day in the week for gaming. Shes often doing her own thing, ie swimming, reading etc so I'll sneak a few hours in here and there. We have Friday and Saturday night as QT (Quality time) and Sunday we go out somewhere and then watch Topgear sunday night (women love TG -bonus!).

I'm sure all the single blokes on here are thinking jeez sounds like a pain in the TANGO, but its all about compromise and having an easy life... you'll understand when you get a long term girlfriend!! :)

My wife thinks its a bit geeky and weird playing games with mates on the web, but I've pointed out its very sociable, helps keep me up to date with a lot of IT stuff and its my hobby :) Which I genuinely believe. She's coming round to my way of thinking and is quite understanding.

Oh and I also agreed that on work days I'd goto bed at 11... so if I'm ever up after 11 and playing on the DMW server... let me know, else i'm a dead man *Joke*... :]

She moans about my 'constant' gaming all the time.  I moan about the crap on the telly I'd have to endure with her, or all the 'little' jobs she has for me to do, if I wasn't gaming.

You have to do the 'quality time' thing every now and again to keep 'em sweet.

It's a great relationship - honest ;)

Living with my girlfriend for 4 years, to be engaged on 18th of august. She is very tolerant with me, especially since she has started to do a little gaming herself (she is hooked on yahoo games, just moved on to some basic 3d stuff). But I do BF2 too much and try to moderate it. We have so little sparetime together, so I try to keep the BF2'ing down - difficult though :)

I have to smile at the term 'quality time'  :D  This generally means guys huffin' an' puffin' with frustration until wife/gf says 'for god's sake go to your bloody computer'. I'm so lucky that my wife doesn't like me, so she thinks it's great that I'm outta her space.

Addendum: We have a great relationship really.  8)

EDIT: Punctuation.

Depends on her mood quite a lot, if she's had a bad day at work I don't even think of going near the PC

a couple of pints early doors then home for a couple of hours gaming 8)

Heh,

I'm married to a dotcor, so when she's on duty in the evenings, I tend to play a bit.

However, I have a job which can be very stressful at times (insurance company lawyer), and my wife thinks its a good way for me to relax by shooting new and old friends. My wife is like every other girl, she likes to watch soaps on the TV. When she does, she gives me that look and tells me to game a bit if I'm really nice to her a bit later....   :D

No problems, as long as I keep the gaming time within reason. Life is full of compromises, and I don't mind. I have spent three weeks alone now, as my wife had to go visit relatives (she's not from Norway), and I'm a bit bored... it is much more fun to have a game when she's around.

Actually, I don't watch telly. I spend time with the computer instead.

And to those of you who lives nearby pubs (100 m), I envy you!!! In Norway a pint will set you back about £4 in a pub. Beer cannot be bought in shops after 8 pm. weekdays and 6 pm. saturdays, and here it is generally considered a sin to have a pint during the week (getting pissed every weekend is OK, though...  )  . thank god my wife likes her beer.

Talking about beer, if any of you takes a notice of my somewhat bad driving habits in APCs an tanks, it could be the beers that I like to drink while gaming

And 'normal' ?  :roflmao:  ;)

BTW: My ex was a bit like: You play onlinegames? What's that. She looked a bit and was: okay... Seems nice.
Since I still live with my mom she's more like: Didn't you play this map yesterday aswell? I'm like: Ehrm, yeah, but not with these people....

Well im single so i can play whenever i like with no nagging. Of course trying to fit BF2 between climbing 3 times a week, pub night fri& sun and trying to actually cook and eat a healthy meal after getting home at 7 after work every evening really makes finding time quite hard.

God forbid i had to fit someone else in aswell!

actually i think thats why my last partner left me.  :(

Yup. Medication. Doc says it'll be about 2 months before I start seeing any benefits although I can see the side effects after 2 weeks - I have never felt so tired in life!

Powerful stuff though. Only allowed 1 x 10mg tablet per week
