We are delighted to announce confirmation of the dates for the latest in the highly successful series of dMw LAN parties:

Alpha Company members will not be able to see this thread or book places at the LAN for a further 7 days,
so please do not mention it in open forums until Thursday 4th AugustTo confirm your attendance please reply to this thread and then book your own room direct with the hotel.[/SIZE]
LAN VIII Details: Dates: Friday 7th, Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th October 2005
Venue: Oliver Cromwell (http://www.olivercromwellhotel.co.uk/), March, Cambridgeshire.
Times: The LAN venue opens at 11.00am Friday morning and the LAN will finish by 5.00pm on Sunday
Costs: For the venue - £15 total per head for the whole weekend
Costs: Room prices are confirmed as £43 for single occupancy and £56 for double occupancy.
Room Availability: 35 x Double; 8 x Twin
If you book a Twin Room and want to share the costs of the room then when you post in this thread to confirm your attendance then also make a note of the fact you have a Twin room booked and are looking for someone to share with.
As before, the reduced accomodation and function room rates have been negotiated on the basis that the majority of the attendees will partake of the excellent cuisine offered by either the hotel restaurant's Fixed price or A La Carte menus or by the hotel's Bar Menu. Eating at the hotel is NOT mandatory, but I am sure that any attendee from the last couple of LANs will vouch for the quality of both the food and the company!
The Oliver Cromwell offers:
- The Noble Suite - an air conditioned conference room (http://www.olivercromwellhotel.co.uk/conferences.html)
- 24/7 access to the suite
- dMw control of entry to the suite
- Late night bar
- Gymnasium
- Large indoor swimming pool
- Eight-person Jacuzzi
- Sauna and Steam room
PLEASE BOOK YOUR OWN ACCOMMODATION DIRECT WITH THE HOTEL - CALL THEM NOW!When calling you *must* mention that you are booking in on the dMw rate, otherwise they will charge you full price!
ALSO:
When booking your room please give them both your real name AND your GAMING NAME so that I can keep tabs of who has booked and who has not.[/b]
When the Oliver Cromwell is fully booked you will need to book into the The Olde Griffin Hotel, March, Cambridgeshire (http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/hotels/oldegrif.html) which is 200yds down the road or a B&B etc.
Amongst other things the LAN will feature:
- a list of officially supported games (BF2 and CS variants will both be there)
- organised competitions
- official LAN Admins
- late night gaming
LAN VIII is going to be our best ever. Book your place now to make sure you do not miss out!
Enjoy!

From the attendees list (http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10347) it appears that the below people do not yet have rooms or may be looking to share. I suggest you start your room search with these people:
Rizzy (no room booked yet)
Armitage (room booked but not known which type)
Snooks (no room booked yet)
Hope this helps.

Nothing to disappoint from me, just disappointing not to see *what* you have booked - that way nobody knows if you need someone to share with (that was the purpose of asking people to say what type of room had been booked). I'll assume you've booked a double and do not need to share......

Sorry folks, my missus has gone and booked to have the decorators in to paint the bedrooms on the weekend of the LAN. Due to having to move furniture, and the fact that one small person would have serious problems shifting two large wardrobes, I have to call off and be around to help.
<_<
List updated and I've added you to the new Coitus Interruptus section of the Attendee post. :norty:
Btw, I reckon that's a lame excuse, if you get the missus to wear some saucy gear I reckon she'd have no problem getting the decorators moving her furniture........... so you can still come to the LAN ;)

Legolas, it's your lucky day. Madness had to cancel about an hour ago.
The LAN is at a hotel, so you'll need to book your room or be prepared to get a cab back each night/morning etc.
Post back here if you want the place.
For those who might be able to help travel wise, Over is just off the A1/A14 intersection, just East of Huntingdon.

I
might be able to help as I'm at least getting in to March via the A14 I think...but I might have a rather large chair in the back of the car along with my pc and bag etc. On the way out I'll probably be going directly south down the a1m (though that might be via that junction too...)

Seeing as you live so close though perhaps it'd be an idea to look at taxi prices as it may be cheaper than staying in the hotel (and the hotel might be full!) I know I certainly won't be fit to drive anywhere within 15 minutes of arriving in March 8)

Good god man, we need sleep you know.
Lots of beer all day and gaming is exhausting..... :dummy:
besides, there may be security issues with leaving the room open...
Aye, we always appoint a Late Night Keyholder who ensures that they are the last person to leave the room and that all the windows and doors are closed and locked etc. That would be too much of a shock to come down in the morning to find £50,000 of computer equipment gone!
TL.
hmmmm, i was under the impressions that there would be some people doing all nighters.... perhaps thats because i've lanned with younger people :P
Well this changes things, I dont like the idea of leaving my stuff unatended, security or no security, is there not anyway I can do an all nighter?
Gimp, I'm 25...
You youngsters are probably fed up on Red Bull instead of beer. I'd like to see you attend and take a couple of pints and still being able to leave the room around 03.00 nad get up again around 08.00

Doing an all-nighter is no fun on your own.
TL.
Re-reading my above post I probably didn't make it clear enough:
It is not an option for someone to sleep in the gaming room at LAN VIII.
I understand your concerns, but you have to understand we have worked this way very successfully now for a few years. Nobody has ever 'lost' any computer equipment, we have never had any security issues. The system we have seems to suit the people who attend the LANs and that's what we'll be sticking with for LAN VIII. I'm sorry if that's not what you're used to Legolas. I'll assume unless you post here to the contrary that you will not be attending the LAN.
TL.
indeed, looks like I wont be there, supose i'm to blame really, me being Mr suspicious etc :)
Also the fact I only just noticed the lan advertised meant I couldnt book a room anyway, bloody internet was offline for 10 weeks or so.
Well maybe next time, enjoy the lan all.
The fact we always seem to time our LANS with the police conventions seems to help security :)
