Title: RAM
Post by: DarkAngel on August 03, 2005, 06:59:01 PM
I have a Abit Fatal1ty SLI Motherboard and ive just put in 4Gb of DDR 400 RAM, one snag in windows it only shows up as 2.75 Gb although in bios it says 4 Gb  :blink: . Rather odd i checked the capacity of the motherboard and fair enough it says 4 Gb.

Any pointers? hmm

Its a chipset limitation probably. My mb supports 4Gb but ASUS warn on their site that you may only get 3.x Gb reported due to chipset limitations (Intel 865PE chipset)

4Gb only being recognized as 3.xxGb: Though 4Gb will be counted, the chipset (and not only Intel's but others as well) will only utilize 3Gb for O/S and applications. The remaining 1Gb is used for the chipset to allocate other system resources (video addressing and such) to that area.

And the valuable lesson here is: always RTFM...and then do some extra digging just to be sure  ;)

Personally I wouldn't get rid of it at all;

It is all being used - just not by windows and its in place for when you get a 64bit operating system.
Plus you never know what the price of ram is going to do ;)

Good investment either way

I have a AMD 64 Bit 3200 (939)
So it is useful though there is some way of just creating ram with the 64 bit processor dont know how tho.. So if any1 wants to buy 2 x 1Gb RAM 3200 then gimme a pm think £50 each would be a reasonable price.

well, I spent 80 odd quid for 1 gig and when fitted in slot 3 yesterday, stopped pc from booting up :(

so ....when I get a minute, I'm gonna strip out me ram and start again 1 at a time, 1 gig 1st, then 512, then 512...until it works.

if It doesn't....I'm looking for an excuse to do a TOTAL upgrade to give Toxteth a pc by october (when his older bro goes to uni....watch out monkey...he'll be after your gaff in 12 months :D )

 :P

No worries :D in 12 months I should be outta here! :P

I was considering the ram but after some driver reinstalls my AGP is back up to 8x from "off" (silly ati smartgart rubbish...) and BF2 seems to be playing much smoother! hurrah! 8)
