This is assuming, of course, that you do, or rather, should have the rights to edit the document...

if it's not a long document you could just copy it out into a new word document or open office document or something. Take screenshots of the pictures if it refuses to let you copy them and retype out the text if it won't let you copy that.

other things to try are exporting/printing to file and then recompiling the document from the print file. I think this can vaguely be done somehow...

else you could try seek out "password recovery" programs. a quick search on download.com came up with this (http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?qt=pdf+password+recovery&tg=dl-20&search.x=0&search.y=0&search=+Go%21). Maybe one of those will help?

I have just finished a 2 day PDF course at work and it was as much fun as it sounds.

firstly you are a plum for losing your password. I doubt if you will be able to copy contents from the PDF. and I not sure if just printing out of a PDF to another PDF would strip out the security. (not very secure if it dose)

do you know what type PDF it is you are trying to edit. if it is 1.6 It would be using 128-bit AES encryption. so unless you visit some unsavoury sites forget it. plus the average crack time on that would be one week. quicker to email to person who created it  8)

There is an interesting story behind the software Suicidal Monkey found for cracking PDF's
