Anybody got any ideas how we can make the connection more stable for baldric ....dMw's reputation is going down the pan with how the server is acting when we are in matches ....not surprised we are getting so many complaints ...tonight was absolutely ridiculous ..lost count how many REALLY bad lags we had
....and its getting embarrassing to keep apologising for our poor match server !!!
Spending some of the Server Fund on say a new server?
Thought the "dual opteron" was on its way.....
i have already raised this point with OB in the admin forum. The ping on the server for the last 3 days has been poor and the forum is being very unresoponsive to new posts. OB is going to reboot the server but he also advises that HV have been jigging about with some new infrastructure si it is possibly that. We'll need OB or TL to tell us more.
There are some hosting reasons why the ping may be unstable - some new arrangements are phasing into place currently, so it may be that the problems will be resolved on their own. As with other pings, please run pingplotter and mail them to me and we can investigate further - without the info you have to understand that it is difficult to cause any action to be taken.
As for the server, yes I am researching it and conclusions have almost been reached to enable a proposal for new hardware to be purchased.
TL.
There have been a few spikes on BF2 aswell, but I'm assuming that is a different server?
(just as a side note, do we need a new server if nothing has changed on it? It never lagged before)
BF2 is actually a much larger cpu overhead than CS. Given the things we run simultaneously then the conclusion of the Admins was yes.
TL.
Sorry TL, I was just posing the question.
So BF2 is on Baldric? I know I know, I should be able to figure it out, but that would involve navigatin away from the forum too far. I get scared.
Yes BF2 and any CS servers are all on the same box - the box being called BlackAdder2. The individual game servers (including the CS ones e.g. Baldric/Razer/MeatHook etc) are on BlackAdder2.

If we are researching the possibility of an upgrade ....what sort of timescale we looking at TL ......just wondering as we could need to go "inactive" on ed until such an upgrade happens ... ;)
Could always just play on the oppositions servers, meens less work for the admins too.
Give me a prod 30 mins before match and I'll close down MH which may help.

I'm hoping the new box will be available in time to run duty as a server at the next LAN, followed by installation into the Hi-V racks.
TL.

Might help to start it up again
Unless the opposition is too good and would give you a pasting :roflmao:
I doubt the lag is wholly to do with the box - have you posted any pingplotter files yet?
TL.
BB put a post up somewhere, i downloaded the attachment.
its called 'forum.deadmen.co.uk.pp2'
what do i do with it?
was just looking at hLSW and kept it on baldric for a while..

That shows your problems start on your first hop and continues all the way to the server. What do you get if you ping plot to news.bbc.co.uk?
this any better.. how long do i have to leave it for? (http://bodclan.org.uk/clan/modules/files/Doris/pin%20gplotter%20on%20bbc.JPG)

Hope this helps. :)

That looks like you are being routed across the pond and back again to go to a site in the UK!!!
AOL.. american right? prob why

Yup. AOL are giving you crap routing to get to London :)
asking the WHOIS database about the IP address tells me that it is registered to Sprintlink in Virginia USA. No wonder your ping to server is all over the place.

although saying that on the server i get around 40 ping ....
i only tend to lag when the server does, as does everyone else
to say we get routed through america we get suprisingly low pings.
i asked the AOL tech help if there was a way round this but they didnt seem to understand what i was asking. <_<
