Still lots of lag on MH, really bad tonight. Is there anything wrong with the NIC on the server?
The BF2 server was equally crud if not worse. In short I left both the CS and BF2 servers because they were unplayable. IMHO there is a problem with the server either software or hardware but there is a problem as traces to it were giving 10% PL.
...and trying to post anything is still a nightmare :(
Sorry to appear so negative but I've had a crap week, I hurt and I just want a game of BF2 or CS :(
I keep answering my own posts :)
There is 10% PL on many hops after 195.66.226.53 so it looks like there is a widespread problem as well as up to 50% PL from our own server.
Any virus/trojans blasting away just now that anyone is aware of?
PingPlotter trace attached
yeah, I'm seeing the same too. I've just got back as well :(
I'm trying to get access to the firewall to check the logs but it is very unresponsive so it 'may' be that which is causing the issue. I'll see if I can restart it remotely.
You're a lovely man, it's not true what OB says about you  ;)
Hope you can fix it GLOJ but as trace shows there are issues in other parts of the net too so if you can fix all of the internet by tomorrow night that would be just lovely :)
Mmm, posting this was a bit quicker. I'm on mSN, Yahoo, AIM and Xfire if you need to chat
I'd love to chat, but I'm going to bed! Kinda been a long day and I'm off out early again tomorrow!
Well what you doing in a forum yapping to the likes of me then? go get some shut eye :)
heres another ping plotter trace taken this morning. It shows regular busts of PL from the server IP as well as some disconcertingly high latencies at the 217.118.119.22 router (telehouse?)
Houston, we have a problem!
As an aside - if it's the NIC then I suspect we will live with it until new hardware goes into place, which should be shortly (no more than 4-6 weeks I hope). OTOH it could just be the settings settling down and still to be fine tuned - or the Telehouse switch being FUBAR. I'll leave that angle to G to report ;)
TL.
I've mailed them already, however I know they were doing a pretty big server move today so wasn't expecting anything. If I've not heard anything by tomorrow then I'll chase them up.
Sadly I have noticed something but I don't intend to mention it in the main forum. The forums respond fine when there is noone on the BF2 server. Earlier there was 5 to 7 people playing BF2 and the forum was so unresponsive I couldn't actually post anything :(
Roll on the hardware upgrade - are we going to dual home it and run BF2 on a separate NIC to CZ? Might be worth considering if it hasn't been already?

We already have the forums on a separate NIC. But I am scheduled to call a coupel of people tomorrow to see if I can;t finalise somethign for the upgrade.

you should not notice any difference as the forums and web are on a completely different server to the game server.

I was thinking more of keeping CS traffic and BF2 traffic segregated
ahh, well that 'may' be possible. I've arranged to have the existing server left in the rack when the new one goes in so we'll have two gaming servers to play with. :D

Nice one
3 Us for the price of none. Good job G :thumb:
well, I had a good play last night and it was very smooth, I also ran a ping -t last night, as well as a ping plot trace, to the web server and when I stopped it this morning with about 60k ping requests there were only 117 timed out ones. And as the web server dumps a 4GB backup tar to an FTP server here at 2am I checked the ping plot times and most of the little red bars occured at this time :)
Lets hope this has nailed the issue.
Nice work G - thanx for your help :D
Is it about time we all met up in London to buy Ant some beers?
TL.
hehe, any excuse for beers for that boy :P
They are talking about coming down to me for a beer weekend at some point so you're more than welcome to join. No idea on the date though, Giulio just said that he'd get the three of them together one weekend when they are all free and will head down.

ok, just mentioned the beers to ant, well up for it and asked if it'd coincide with the new server install. That does sound like a plan as you'd get to see the new facility :D

Let me know when and I'll be there
I'll wait on the London thing until we have the server.
I love it when a plan for one beer session turns into plans for two beer sessions :norty:

Lag still happening :(
It was unplayable on BF2 tonight. I have run a ping plotter trace and we are still getting up to 20% PL on our server IP (.20) however there are also two routers between me and it that are also causing problems. One is in telehouse I think and the other belongs to BY.
I was on all evening since 7:30 til about 10 minutes ago and did not noticed any lag at all. Oldie did complain about lag at one point but I saw his ping shoot up to around 200ms whereas everyone elses was fine.
I'll see if I can get them to check into the telehouse problem. Can't do much about blueyonder however.
I'm more concerned about the PL showing against the server IP. Had hoped that had been eradicated? Bugger :(
I'm not seeing any on the web server which is a different box but connected to the same switch. Maybe a dodgy nic on the game server :( Which would be a bugger as I believe it is built into the mobo on that one.
Well, this is an odd one. I can trace back to your IP with no problems at all, no loss on any hops.
I've spoken to Hi-V and they are not aware of any issues with telehouse, though he is checking and I'll let you know if they find anything.
Any chance BY support can shed any light on the problems?
