Title: Error message
Post by: Blunt on September 18, 2005, 06:19:00 PM
when I start my pc, and when I start some progs (eg pingplotter) and whenever I need to use MSDos, I get this error message

it doesn't seem to matter if I close or ignore, and it doesn't seem to effect my pc (apart from not using dos), but it's obviously not right...

any ideas anybody?

ps I'm running a perfectly legit xp pro

It is because you are trying to run dos based or say a 16 bit application, solution is:

Insert your XP CD into the CD drive and clicking start --> Run and enter

expand D:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt

Replace D:\ with your CD ROM drive letter.

or

Download this (http://forum.iamnotageek.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=18265)

and then extract it to your windows\system32 directory.

Full details are here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767)
