Bit of a downer last night was how the dMw server seemed to freeze when it came to the 'Wake Island' map.
And unfortunately there were no admins about at that point to re-start the server (until a little later - but by that time quite a few people had drifted off).
It's a shame as I was really looking forward to playing Wake Island.
Still - during the freeze - we had a nice game of 'Eye Spy'....And no, it wasn't Aardvark!
:)
And after the freeze, Dewey, Paddy, Swiss and myself had a topper of a Karkland!
All good practise for the LAN.
Any of you admin guys know whay Wake ISland may have frozen?
Might have been an issue with AAS. OB would need to look into it after LAN. In the meantime I can remove Wake island from the map cycle to see if that cures things temporarily

Sounds very likely, since the mod doesn't include that map.

This explains why - when we tried playing this map in the night that 1.03 came out that the flags failed to come down in a sequenced order.
I hope this can be sorted as I like Wake Island
:(
i dont like the map too much, it seems too open not much ground to shoot from a range (im not a sniper honest)
planes and helicopters seem to dominate the map as vehicles are restricted to 'single file'

I think it might be a fun "infantry-only" map. I agree with Doris otherwise, looks lovely but quite restrictive.

I like it - but only as it was meant to be played (ie not AAS)...
I don't think it's restrictive - there is acually plenty of space to hide and manuver (nice little beach coves to flank with).
It is a bit exposed to air bombardment though - so the defenders need to be close to those Stingers...But if you get your aircraft up for CAP you shouldn't have to worry too much.
So, yes, I like it a lot - but as the majority feeling among players seems to be or urban environments I'm not surprised that a lot of people don't like this map.
urban environments allow much more hide and go seek style play which I find more enjoyable. Some of the island and hill-type maps do have good hidey-holes but a lot of them are very open making it hard to implement a good sneak attack, esp as a sniper (which I am quickly growing to enjoy on certain maps!
