Title: BF1942
Post by: suicidal_monkey on January 26, 2003, 01:02:51 AM
It's gonna be the next big thing :D
Anywhere up to 64 8O player servers, tanks, planes, bazooka's, and
pretty nice graphics to boot :)
Its only been out a while and already theres some incredible mods
coming out for it - in fact I hear "Desert Crisis" may soon get its own
server on by. mig's, f16's apache attack choppers. oh yeah :) Now all I
need is a new computer to run it properly
The Road to Rome addon appears in the uk on the 7th Feb too 8)

any of you guys playing it?

My clans starting up a bf1942 section and we'll need some friendly opponents quite soon I hope

I bought it and the single play was bollox, but online it looks like great fun.  But there are so many games to try before I get there. Day of Defeat is still superior for gameplay IMHO.

agreed, the single player is rather kak. The bots are very, um, slow to think...
It's great fun online when you have people doing stupid things tho :)

Your right the single player sucks like a Dyson on overdrive, but the mplayer more than makes up for it.

The first time you toast a Tiger tank from behind with a bazooka, or when you kamikazi a plane on top of loads of enemy infantry will hook you on the game.

With 5 troop types, dozens of different vehicles including planes, tanks and submarines you cant go wrong.

I've been playing BF1942 for a while now (partly the reason for my absence at CS).

I really enjoy the game. You guys are right, the singleplayer is tosh, but the multiplayer is a blast.

The pure versatility and amount of jeeps, tanks, planes, artillery, rocket launchers make it great fun and, provided one can find other similiarly minded-folks, you can play a great tactical game.

The only drawback imho is the lack of communication in the game. You can't chat as you can in CS and this does worsen the game.

I rarely recommend games, but I would this one.

to look cool 8)

Multiplayer, like most games is part of the package you buy when you get the game :P . Though you might try to buy the expansion pack road to rome with bf1942 if you can. There are some greats mods in developement already, desert combat probably being the best atm. //www.desertcombat.com :D

btw, if any of you are looking for a clan to play with/against in bf1942 drop by #downgraded on Quakenet. We're just starting up a bf wing at the moment and finding teams of 8 or 12 players can be hard

yeah, I'll drop into #downgraded. It'd be good to get some team playing going

thanks for the heads up

Tactical Gamer (formerly Network 42) is now running a public BF1942 server with the Desert Combat mod.  8)

Hmmm, of course in this case cross-pond ping might be more of a problem.  :x

Just an experiance on BF1942

If anyone plays BF1942.......stay away from me

I had the pleasure if playing this the other day on a m8's computer........he had just installed a mod which changes the players from US/Japan to Iraq and Coalition forces using modern day armour ect
As I am new to this game my m8 was talking me through as I played which was OK till he went to the loo.....
I just spawned and saw a nice new blackhawk helicopter appear ready for use .....Ill  have some of that I thought
I got in the chopper and was figuring out the controls when 5 team buds jumped in and took up positions on the guns and transport area
I managed to get the chopper off of the ground but the only button that seemed to work was the up button.....i held this for quite a while .......clouds went past .....the screen started to go dark.......i was still going up .......
By now I had figured that the controls are different for a chopper than a plan and was mashing the keyboard trying to find controls that would make it go some place rather than up
As it happened I did find one control that was quite usefull.......BAIL OUT!!!!.........yeh that little beauty popped me out into the stratosphere at about 40000 feet
I shouted my bud still on the loo "what's the open parachute button ???" a timely reply saw me sailing back down to earth....
After about 2 mins drifting back to earth I was horrified to see a Black Hawk full of my team come vertically past me at very very fast rate of knots
And look as I may I could not find the team talk button to warn them to jump out ...to tell the truth I couldn't even see the keyboard at this time due to the tears of laughter rolling down my face
The guys in the chopper must be thinking this guy is good he's setting up one hell of an attack run
After about 1 min my score dropped to -5 and I figured there were no survivors......

When the dead came back I was given some very harsh comments ......most of them I knew but some I had never even heard of before  8O .........this continued for about 10 mins .....they were very upset

Best thing was my m8 came downstairs just as they kicked me / him (I was using his name) from his favourite server

Anyway ...top comedy game maybe one for the lan...as it can hold up to 64 players I think

:D ah yes, choppers. hard to control, but the people who can fly them rule the DC servers. I can take off and slowly make my way in a vaguely chosen direction. Even landed the things once or twice successfully! I feel that a joystick would helps matters greatly ;)

tbh if the passengers in your helicopter had any sense they'd have done something about the falling chopper
