Great day today! Valve has released the Lost Coast addon to HL2. it is completly free and they suggest that you have at least a 2.2Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, and a DX9 compatible video card, but everyone should be able to play.

here is the complete page: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Current_events (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Current_events)

The specs for it are really high though. I think its because they want to show off the engine in all its glory. I will download it when i come home from uni.

Yep.  Don't set the expectation too high, it's mostly a tech demo to show what HDR can look like.

Anyone use the harpoon from the old man?

It wasn't that bad.  HDR was pretty and I'm sure if I had a rig that fully render it, it would be a nice touch.

The bottom three are from the first run, no indicators about what was coming around the corner.  I just liked how the harpoon looked

I love to stack things and this actually helped.

Why did it take 5 times longer to download than it did to play?

Some HDR screenshots with blooming, it makes my computer run pretty slow. If the the loading time etc isn't appreciated i wont be offended if someone deletes this post

I like the way it can make it hard to see sometimes. Looks like a bad photo.

I've downloaded this the other day.
Is it only 1 level? If so: worthless download.

C'mon, it's not like you payed anything for it. It was supposed to be a tech demo of various new features, not a free mini-game. Before Episode 1 came out it showed off the HDR lighting that Valve were working on for the engine, and also demoed their little 'Directors Commentary' thing, to see how people would react to it. At the time it came out, I thought it was well worth it.

True, but the level was really short. I thought it would have been a bit bigger...

some scenes there are quite nice graphically; works for me. and as mentioned above - it's for free.
