hey guys,
tomorow i am goning to apply to a couple of local computer shops for work or work experience beacuse it is a career i wish to do.
below is a letter which will be attached to my CV and would like any comments on how it could be better.
bare in mind im 18...

If your'e only 18 I'm sure Benny already has you bare in his mind! :D
....given that the majority of small pc shop owners are probably looking for a trainee with limited experience (read, it's cheaper on the payscale) you may well frighten them off with what appears to be a rather formal letter (don't get me wrong, if you were applying to IBM or such like it would be great) so you might want to "soften" the approach.....more along the lines of "It would be great to get some hands on experience to backup my theoretical knowledge and you would get an extremelycompetent assisstant who requires little training (win-win situation)".
Remember these are "real" people and not Organisations, and more importantly HR Departments, so you need to communicate at their level.
As long as you understand that the pay may not be what you will "expect" when you are qualified but that you get what you need (invaluable experience) then I'm sure you will get some takers.

I'd rephrase it ever so slightly...but with all these things, it's subjective, go with what you're happy with. The only thing I would say is to get to the point quickly, whoever is reading it wants you to save them time and get straight to the point. They probably won't read the rest of the letter unless you can catch them straight away.

And having re-read that it's local shops and not HR as Dingo rightly says....
why not walk in, dress smart and introduce yourself, they are usually friendly local family run things, get in there, you've got nothing to lose.

thanks for the help.
i just hope i dont have to ride around on my motorbike in the poring rain (as its forcasted) tomorow so i dont look like a drowned rat :| lol
so i only need to make it "more to the point" if it was a larger company?

Oh and be normal. They want you, not the other way around, it would be in their interests to hire you, they should do as much selling as you.
EDIT - I was going to correct the way that first sentence sounds, but this is the seriously forum so I'm untouchable. (I always interview just beofre bed, usually whilst I'm in the bath) ;)

Personally I prefer to include my CV in a traditional CV format, then include a personalised cover letter to whoever I am trying to persuade to give me a job, but I don't know what y'all think of that. GL matey, you'll be fine, this whole interview thing is over-hyped!

A multitide of PCs is PCs not PC's. :devil:
One of the things that would put a black mark against a candidate. If they can't be bothered to get their CV correct then the job can't be that important to them. :whistle:

well i tryed 6 shops in total...
two closed early and i didnt get there in time :|
the other 4 took my cv and letter, but all said they had no vacenicies...
so not a very sucessful day. ill have to wait and see if they change there minds...

at least ya got your CV in to them ...and thats always there now if they do start to look for assistants in the future ...
try and get back to the two that were shut to give them a copy of yer CV .... you never know !!

Or try a recruitment agency, get them to do the footwork, and then once you find a job you like, leave the agency and get employed directly by the place you're working at.
