Title: AAS on Dragon Valey - unfair for USMC
Post by: Ranger on October 27, 2005, 01:40:10 PM
Anyone that has played the USMC side on AAS on the Dragon Valley map will tell you how unfair that map is to thier side...

No sooner does the game start than the USMC are bottled up in the American UCB because the Chinese side already have the Farmhouse and hill overlooking the US UCB!!!

Basically you are nailed as soon as you set foot outside the US compound!

...I know - I was on the Chinese side last night and it was like shooting fish in a barrel (I felt dirty!).

As if to illustrate the point, we later played the same map on the [TG] server later that night - in the normal conquest mode and it was a completely different kettle of fish.

The US forces now had the ability to flank and take rear-most flags which gave them a better chance of winning the game.

As it stands on dMw Dragon Valley is far to heavily ballanced in favour of the Chinese force.

Suggestions:

There are two ways we could deal with this on dMw:

1) Remove Dragon Valley from the map list (can we do that Admin?)...OR...

2) Allow the US forces - by mutual agreement - to take the Farmhouse flag as thier new starting point.

- We actually did this a couple of weeks back and it worked well (OldBloke or BlueBall suggested it). Basically we - the Chinese side - agreed not to spawn at the Farmhouse but instead one flag back at the Woodyard instead. This at least give the USMC a chance to fight thier way out.

What do you think?

I'm pretty certain there's a mode in AAS that allows you to set the flags each team starts off with so that it's automatic and you don't have to rely on the teams negotiating it ingame...Add in the 20-30 second delayed initial spawn time and you also rule out the fast-loaders ability to rush in and cap flags before the the opposing team is able to respond...

quick google ...

read the features section...
QuoteAn option to balance the number of flags owned by each team at the start of a round, so that the battle will always start in the middle of the map. This option can of course be disabled if wanted. The default is enabled.

if it's available on a map-by-map basis that would let us keep all the maps on the server. I still like the idea of some delay at the start as on the TG server... I typically had 30s left of the TG timer when the maps started.

It's not a map-by-map option :(

It's either on or off.

I prefer to let the USMC have the first island. When we last did this we were mullered though  :D
