Title: Revised classes and more weapons!
Post by: Ranger on November 04, 2005, 09:46:57 AM
After playing BF2 for a while I have started to miss the variety of weapons and flexability of classes that games like 'Ghost Recon' give...

For example (and this is one I have mentioned before):

Anti-Tank class: I think this should be a more flexible class with a wider choice of weapons for supporting infantry. I think it should be re-designated 'Heavy weapons specialist' and allow the soldier to chose from the following three primary weapons:

a] ATW
b] Shoulder fired Stinger
c] 60mm mortor

(I also think that this soldeir should have the choice from a wider range of smgs - like the .45 calibre UMP or the Steyr AUG para)

...So I guess I am saying that each class should have not one but 3 primary & secondary weapon choices.

Luckily I not that 'Special Forces' is bringing one of my favourite rifles into the game - the FN FAL (in British service this was the L1A1 - 7.62mm x 51mm NATO).

Also, I think that 'Squad Leader' should be a class in it's own right - with special items such as binoculars with primary weapon of a Colt M4 or FN SCAR (I like FN!).

I know this is all 'wishing' and probably won't happen - but that's what the forums for eh? :)

Dewey has just reminded me that the 'Heavy Weapons' class I described actually existed in Novalogic's 'Joint Ops' (which the BIG guys played befor switching to BF2.

Confusingly though, this class in JO was called 'Engineer'!

You had a choice of ATW, Stinger or 60mm mortor.

I had forgotten - so this wasn't my original idea then!

But it was a great class - as you could switch from defence to attack, and ground defence to air defence...

'Joint Operations' DIDN'T have fast jets - just attack helicopters (including the 'Little Bird' which is being introduced to BF2 in the 'Special Forces' expansion).

I second the call for optional rtansportable stingers...bf1942:DC "AT" class (or was it engineer...) got both stingers and AT rockets (and mines I think!) - definitely the way forward :)

It would make a nice change from knifing people - to sneak up behind them and ...

'DDDDOOOOIIINNNGGG!'

Big comic shovel in the back of teh head!

Can you imagine Karkland with a dozen of us running round trying to pan each other in the head with shovels! LMAO!

I've always thought that Pilot should be a class in it's own right. You can only fly or gun a jet or helo if you are of this class. Would be equipped with simple weaponry like a pistol, and maybe a flare / smoke for being picked up if shot down.

Not overly applicable to the arcadey style of BF2 maybe.. but maybe still worth the investigation.

I agree - very good point.

There should also be a comms rose option to call in an airstrike - and pilots should get extra points if they respond to these (to encourage the jet jockies to act as part of the team).

And maybe you should get extra bonus points for rescuing pilots (that would make for interesting search and rescue missions in the Blackhawk).

Also the pilot class should spawn more slowly to reflect the importants and highly skilled  nature of this role (and the fact that they don't get killed as much as the grunt on the ground).

And - from the enemy side - infantry should get extra bonus points for killing a pilot!

:)

That or you could capture them and torture them for tickets. For every minute you keep them you get 5 tickets. You could tease them and release them then run them over.

I feel a new mod pack coming on.

I've though of another great class.

Pigmy cannibals.

Whatdayya think of that. Your running along and you start to slow down. You look down and there they are biting your ankles. Suddenly more appear from the trees - before you know it ...

OK OK - perhaps I'm getting carried away - but we should be able to bite people when we run out of ammo. i'm sure I heard Armitage growl the other night.

As a dad with kids I don't like the idea of pygmy cannibals - its too much like my family life intruding into my gaming life!

Do I get the feeling you don't like pilots Benny?  :D

Actually you could also have a Terry Waite Mod to allow you to be a negotiator and you get points for the successful release of these pilots  :D
