Title: Total Battlefield Map Pack 2
Post by: Ranger on November 06, 2005, 07:06:13 PM
Blunt mentioned this in another thread and I downloaded the map pack...Glad I did.

The maps are very good quality - and the highlight is Karkand II.

Think of it as approaching the city from a different suburb...

But what makes it special for me is the 'up and down' nature of the map - it's more hilly and has a lot more roffs open to use...Sniper heaven!

I think we should look at these (download them then start a local server on your machine to have a wander round by yourself - this will give you an idea as to how the maps look without someone putting a bullet through your head)!

I really enjoyed just walking round the maps planning what would make good flanking points and choke points, and finding all the little sneaky alley-ways!

:)

Give them a look.

I've d/l'd it but not much more, I'ttry to have a look around tonight.

Does BF2 auto download to clients if they don't have the map?

Dont think it auto dowloads as your server name comes up in read and a message about not haveing the map the server is currently running.Karkland 2 is excellent map with a strategic cp right among the bridges. Also one of the maps, not sure of its name,is buggy and TG have left it out of the rotation I think. :)

Yep - I tried to get on the [TG] server this weekend and that error message came up - 'You do not have the map' (or whatever).

So they don't download - you have to download them and install them (and the server has to be set up for them too).

So if we ask the nice cuddley server gods to 'pretty please' set up a night for us that would be cool!

I can see the problem being with custom maps is the lack of AAS support.

What do you think after tonights matches - AAS still needed on small map settings???

May be we should leave small maps on for a bit without AAS and see how it goes. I'm no around until Friday now, but I would like to see if it works with few more people and tanks and APC.

May be one of the server rules should be when its below 12 people on the server we just use jeeps.

Yep, I am 100% behind that - I do not see the need for armour or planes when it's less than a 6 v 6 ( - as you say, 12 people).

Last night proved the point - we all (I think) had a great time with just infantry and non-AAS on small maps. We just needed the jeeps to taxi us to the further flags and keep the action going.

I'm a big fan of this format as I still hope we can get a 5 v 5 mini-league going at some point - I think people just needed to be convinced that this format can be fun.
