You know all these 3D games that have your system grunting and puffing (like BF2) are all fine and dandy, but sometimes it's justt nice to play a game that is just good old retro fun...

If you ever played the legendary game 'Elite' then you'll know what you are in for with Ambrosia's 'EV Nova'.
Actually, EV Nova is not a new game - it's been knocking around on the Apple Macintosh in various versions for a good few years, but it's underground popularity became so wide-spread that eventually PC users actually started to pester Ambrosia for a WIndows version!!!

As you can see, the 2D heads-down view of the game gives it a retro feel - which is nice.
Like Elite you start out in a crappy little space shuttle - and have to work your way to some of the more sexy (2D! LOL) space ships...You do this by ferrying cargo or taking on missions.
There's a large universe to explore - and several factions to which you can aline yourself (through the missions). Exotic hardware can be gained by undertaking 'secret' missions for the various factions.
You get the idea!
;)
I find this game terrific - and always end up going back to it (there are loads of plug-ins and mods available for it)...
BEST THING about it though is that because it doesn't demand a all bells and whistles system this is absolutely ideal for use on a laptop OR on the crappy office work machine (just don't let the boss catch you).
30 pounds tho <_<

$30 - thirty dollars!
(About £15)
That's not too bad - but the demo is fun on it's own.
