Title: Minutes silence - Rememberance Sunday?
Post by: Ranger on November 10, 2005, 09:08:19 AM
Been trying to think of a suitable way to mark Rememberance Sunday...

My first thought was just not to play BF2 at all on Sunday - but an alternative, for those of you who do mark Rememberance, would maybe to gather online at 11am (GMT) and actually have a virtual minutes silence.

I know - you are thinking 'he's finally lost it' - but I think this would be quite a nice touch actually.

Both my parents served in the last war - my mother on the gun-sites near London and my father was a Desert Rat - and I personally think it's the least I could do. I know for some Rememberance is perahps not so important.

But I'm going to do it.

Just stand there, in Karkand, for a minute in silence - not shooting anything.

I have done a quick post on Tactical Gamer too - with my idea of a 'virtual' rememberance in BF2 - and I have asked that anyone who does this that they might like to take a screenshot of them doing it to post up. Thought it would be a nice touch.

Oh, and 'PS' -

Blunt asked me to do a Rememberance ribbon, and here's what I came up with:-

'Falling Poppies'

Sounds like a nice idea. Even though this occasion isn't marked by a lot of people here in Denmark, I'll be there if wanted. :salute:  :)

Went ahead and did the 'Virtual Rememberance'.

Thought I would be on my own, but had a really pleasant surprise and found our TG mate [TG-42nd]Wulfyn had turned up too.

We got on the dMw server (Operations Clean Sweep map) ahead of 11am (GMT), and we met up at the Small Airfield flag.

Timing wasn't an issue, as here in Scarborough (where I live) they send up a rocket at 11am - and then another one when the two minute silence is over (I can hear these clearly from my office).

Took some screens:

This is Wulfyn during the silence.

Here's a couple of larger shots as we met up:

Two minutes silence - full screen (64kb): Click here to see image in new window (http://www.beaty.demon.co.uk/pictures/BF2/rememberance/2005/silencesml.jpg)

Unfortunately you cannot 'port arms' in BF2, so you have a shot of my rifle, but trust me, I was standing still head down.

A big thanks to Wulfyn for not only taking the time to do this, but for also turning up at the dMw server. Would have been nice to see a few more dMws there - but maybe next year eh?
