As you will already know George Best passed away today. A fantastic footballer probably one of the words best ever. Pity about his vices but hey we all got em..
A great loss to Football and Belfast...... :(

George Best once bought me a drink - a real gent.

You can condemn the vices, but that was the man, full on. He had a good life for himself. Who are we to judge?

I was Born in 1960...George Best was my childhood hero and my lifetime hero.

there was simply no-one to touch him..

he had his human frailties...but on a football field there was....is.....no equal

separate from the posthumous accolades he will get...

a flawed genius maybe....

but skilled beyond anything then or now...I've never seen better....

and I challenge anyone to name a better all round player.

If you are too young to have seen him....I hope you'll get to see some action in the next few days

I will miss him...even though he hasn't played in 20 yrs

really really sad :(

I agree with the comments above ....

I have got lots of Man. Utd DVD's which my 11 year old is now watching......   he said that Best was like an old version of Ryan Giggs .....think he meant it as a compliment ...and he is still watching the DVD's over and over again nad still he comments on some of the older footage ..... some great footage on them of Best doing his stuff that he was known for on the pitch ....

a true legend in football ...(Pele quoted him as the best footballer in the world!)and a sad loss

I can just remember Best playing in the latter days of his career with the hibees, even then he was pure class.

Might be thread Hi-jacking but id also like to pay my respects to Richard Burns, who died today aged 34 of a brain tumour. The world of rallying will miss him greatly.

What I'm wondering is, would the hospitals refusing to treat overweight folks (seeing as it must be their own fault they're overweight) also have refused to treat George Best as his health conditions was down to his life style?

And yeah, also a shame Richard Burns has died.

Great footballer, played for my local team but a few years before I went to see my first game at Easter Road:

"So it was on 16 November 1979 that incredibly George Best put pen to paper and signed for Hibernian. He made his home debut against Partick Thistle and added thousands to the gate, as he did everywhere he played in Scotland. George went on to make just 25 appearances for the club under Eddie Turnbull and Willie Ormond, scoring three goals."

sums it up:

"Controversy was never far from George Best, but the fact is that he was loved by football fans everywhere as the talent possessed by George has always been appreciated. He will always be remembered for the right reasons - thanks for the football George."

Add my bit about Richard Burns, very tragic such telent being cut short and without a single drop of bubbly to blame. The year he won the WRC was against all odds, a fantastic sprotsman and he will be badly missed.
