Title: Localisation Files
Post by: Cadaver on December 01, 2005, 12:23:01 PM
SaladFork over at TG has written an excellent guide on how to tweak your localisation files in BF2 to change the various HUD messages you get.

Check it out here (http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlefield-2-general-discussion/63693-having-fun-localization-files-v1-12-a.html).

A good enhancement includes altering the Teamkill message, so that you know what weapon/vehicle you were teacaked by (and whether it was an accident or had malicious intent).

Another enhancement could be to change the text after the weapon/vehicle names to make them more descriptive.  E.g. I know TeaLeaf finds BF2 a big turnoff at the moment because when he sees something like:

-=[dMw]=-Cadaver [AH-1Z] -=[dMw]=-TeaLeaf

he has no idea what the AH-1Z is, and how to modify his game to avoid being killed by it again.  If he instead saw:

-=[dMw]=-Cadaver [AH-1Z - USMC AttackHelo] -=[dMw]=-TeaLeaf

Then he'd know in future to avoid the wopping great helicopter firing it's chaingun at him. :D

Anyway, I think it's pretty useful and will probably have a play around with it.

Sure thing, that's a given.  I just didn't want to get anyone's hopes up by saying I'd do something, only to not deliver.  My PC time at home at the moment is, how shall we say, somewhat erratic.
