Title: Manually editting your profile name prefix
Post by: Ranger on December 02, 2005, 10:06:49 AM
Now I haven't tried this yet ~ but I am wondering if this is the answer to the problem that teh BF2 profile prefix not allowing '-' & '=' characters to make up teh proper -=[dMw]=- tag???

Anyway - see what you think (with credit to the Tactical Gamer forum where I found this):

Seems like the new prefix introduced in the 1.0.3 patch only allows [ and ] as "special" characters. That's a limitation of the input box, because you can actually use | to make the "proper" TG tags.

   1. Open up Windows Explorer, your Terminal, or whatever file browser you may be using.
   2. Navigate over to your "My Documents" folder (Default: C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\).
   3. Navigate into \Battlefield 2\Profiles\.
   4. Open up Global.com using any text editor (Notepad will do).
   5. There should be a line that contains the GlobalSettings.setNamePrefix command. Usually, this will be the second line in the file.
   6. Whatever is in between the two double quotes following this command will be your prefix. Edit it to your desire. (Example: GlobalSettings.setNamePrefix "|TG|")
   7. Save the file (File -> Save), and exit out of your text editor.
   8. That's it, you're done! The next time you login to BF2, you should now have the correct prefix. Note that if the changes are made while BF2 is open, it will NOT work. You must have BF2 closed.

This method can also be used if your prefix gets "stuck" and you can't change it for one reason or another. Just edit the file and put in what you what.

will that work with -=[dMw]=- though? I thought the max length for prefixes was 6 characters?
