Title: Ye Olde Arcade Game
Post by: Thulsa Doom on December 12, 2005, 09:37:43 PM
I've been looking for a decent emulator so I can play the old classic arcade games like Galaxians, Gorf, Defender, Bomber etc but have not had much luck.
MAME32 doesn't want to run on XP and a few others I've downloaded are pretty crap.

Anyone here still play any old classics, and point me in the right direction where I can download them (for free :))?

best thing I can say is have a look around http://www.remakes.org/ (http://www.remakes.org/) there, not the original games, but remade newer versions that'll run on todays comps, some very good versions of old games kicking about on there if you have a few mins spare to find em.

I found 'Cholo' on there, a game I loved on the Spectrum as it was a brand new concept.

Its been updated and cleaned up a bit, but follows the original games storyline with a bit of extra content.

Never managed to finish the original, but I finished this one in a few hours (probably because I knew most of the original).

Now I just need to find remakes of Millenium2.2 and Deuteros from the Amiga.

Abandonia (http://www.abandonia.com/index2.php)

Underdogs (http://www.the-underdogs.org/)

Two great, legal sites for old games

I use MAME on XP Pro with no problem.
You have to keep your eye on Releases and Romsets though check MAMEWORLD for more info.

Nice one bob... I have been wanting to do that for ages but need to wait till I move from a flat to a house.

I also use this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-xVc0U2LyY

Why use an emulator when you can come down to my Dads Unit and choose from 150 Arcade Machines =P

6,500+

That's all I'm going to say about the emulator.

BTW, I'm also running MAME32 (v119) on XP Pro with no problems.
