I bought the old Sony 1 Gb walkman mp3 player because a battery lasts for 70 hours ogf playing time and you can get 22 CDs on it. Comet have them for about £70. Everything else gave about 15 hours of playing time.

i bought a atrac sony cd discman and you can get 40 albums on 1 cd, but that was 2 yrs ago and i still use it, anyway a mate of mine when i was in iraq this year bought something sony wise similar to this(not as big a screen)

sony mp3 player (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=NWHD5SILVER&Dept=audio&CategoryName=audio_mp3players_style_harddrive)

anyhow cause i had 120 albums with me on disc (atrac on 3 dics) he was able to cough  the music onto that so he was happy.

it had good sound and was easy to use and quite sandproof, also the battery lasted longer than the ipod... but bose and other big make support ipod so youll have to search around for some decent speakers, if you changed your mind and got an ipod these speakers(which i have seen demonstrated)  and are louder than my very expensive sony hi fi :-( would do

very good bose speakers....   :-( (http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_PRODUCT_PAGE_EVENT&product=sounddock_multimedia_index)

My GF has the music version of this. S'alright, only grouse is that the music one isnt overly durable, a splash of water or a couple of drops and it'll probably need repairing/buying a new one.

Oh and the creative media centre software to put the music on isn't the greatest but it does the job well enough. Allows more customisation than iTunes, but isnt so quick and simple.

Very happy with my ipod (it was free through that free ipods thing you've probably heard about).  Battery time is great unless you play video, then kiss it good-bye.  I still have yet to make a dent in the 30GB capacity with music I'd actually want to have with me at all times.

So far I'm not sure I could ask for much more customization than itunes allows.  I can create playlists, synch the media and sort.  Just about all I need to get out the door.  Synch-ing the ipod is quick and easy.

Speakers:  at home I use a 1/8" RCA cable to attach it to our Kenwood stereo system.  Runs/sounds great.

I wish I could turn the light down on it, it's a tad bright in the dark.
