I know I am a little left wing (Ron can confirm that  ). But some people seem to using the word Gay on the forum In a negative way (to imply broke, not very good or damaged.) We would never except raciest or fascists comments. so seems strange that we let this go unchecked.
It may be me with my Political correctness hat on. But it seems wrong to me.
hope we're not getting into the whole world of pc gone mad !!!!
most "bad" swear words or expletives have been filtered out ...I think gay is neither of those ...
my 2p worth .. 8)

Not sure it's PC gone mad. Calling a Christmas tree a Holiday tree is PC gone made.
But a word doesn't have to be a swear word to be offensive, it has to do with context
I am, always have been, and probably always will be against the filtering of "gay" (among others) on forums. It's pointless, and patronising/insulting to gay people. Inappropriate use of the term is something admins can handle if need be.

Generally speaking; I have never heard the word used in the way Arm describes.
Ignore me.
Blame the radio 5 phone the other day for making me a bit over sensitive 8)

Oversensitive? You? Gettoudahere!
As I am the last contributor to Compost corner I will be very tactful here and say..........
Let's be fair here, as a personal observation, you look like a hippy on crack, and that can't be a good thing? :tumbleweed:  :D :toast:
Enola Gay was the name of a plane that delivered the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima......and in my book, inplying broke, not very good or damaged is a good description.
Ghay on the otherhand is considered ok because it does not imply anything about a person's sexuality but more about the subject being crass.
Gay, by the homosexual community, is an accepted word to distinguish a group that does not conform to the norm.
Ergo....if that group readily accept the definition they cannot be adverse to comments suggesting that Gay, in the modern context, is outside the "norm" of social behaviour then your original supposition that you have your pc hat on is correct.
Suggest a chill pill is in order.....not, of course, that I would advocate any form of drug abuse whatsoever.....GOD forbid!??.......or did he, I haven't read the Bible for a long while now!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
ps Are you "real" left wing or new Labour
"Right" can also mean "correct," while the Latin term for "left" suggests "sinister" behavior.
My, what a queer (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=queer&db=*)(*1) conversation to have read here. :lmfao:

I think i've heard it used that way once, and an admin posted with asking that people please didn't use the term 'gay' in a derogotary sense. Noone did after that, it seemed to work OK. Personally I prefer it if it doesn't get used, as I have several gay friends who I know it would annoy, and thus it tends to get on my nerves a tad. Not much though.
Not as much as text-speak on forums <_< (not looking at anyone on here when saying that ;))
