OK guys - I know u are all in the know of BF2 and its relevant specs to run - well for chrissy her in doors has presented me with BF2. I loaded it - patched it and then with a "Uncle bully" in one hand and a bit of Biltong in the other I started what I thought would be 82 hours on rather good company-----aghast i was truely wrong . The splash screen started then DISAPPEARED and I was back to the desktop with no errors - prompting for something wrong or nufing!!!!!!!!!!!!.
i read the forums and it looks like my Ath XP1700+ 512DDR and GeForce2 Ti have finally bit the bullet when it comes to this 2GIG beast? I need to upgrade(Thought I might have to when HL2 came about - but managed to scab it through with only minor lag) anyways I NEED YOUR HELP - plz give me a decent spec to upgrade to (that will suffice me through to the next decade) - I am all ears and have the cash to do it?

what sort of money are you looking to spend? are you looking for a whole system or just the base unit? to you want to self-build?
do you have any hardware preferences? AMD/Intel Nvidia/ATI
Lo Radders, that happend to me aswell at first.
Several things could be the problem here.
First: Do you have the latest drivers installed for your graphicscard and soundcard. Soundcard maybe "sound" weird but believe me, it's really necessary.
For the rest, try and minimize the background programs like F@H and DownLoadAccelarator. These can give problems aswell.
Another thing that might help is repatching it. I did it 3 times with the latest patch before it worked properly.
Hope you get it sorted.
The graphics card is to old.
Video card must have 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets:
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or greater
ATI Radeon 8500 or greater
Hey guys - I have tried everything (a cheap person like myself does not like parting with the readies) - My prefereneces are
AMD - looking at the 64 stuff
GeForce be the card - as I have had no problems with the Ti
I have have the box - dvd writer - 200GIG hard drive - probably need a new PSU what wattage i don't know - memory and all that good cooling stuff.
THOUGHT:I could go to a 8x AGP card and just buy a new motherboard and RAM? Is this an option for the future?
I don't know - feedback necessary.
PS: cash of around 500 NZ Dollars (£250) don't laugh :-)

For the best information, ask Norm, he who knows all about computers.

Personal opinion is that if you're going to do even a low-end upgrade with any kind of future proofing you're going to be wanting a PCI-Express card, but that'll mean a new mobo, and probably/possibly new RAM to go in it in that case.
I'll leave the expert advice to the experts ;)
