Having seen the logistical problems of running the 'Jingle Bombs' tourney I can now appreciate why some felt my 'Mini-League' idea was just too impractical.
With the best will in the world, trying to get set teams together on a regualr basis would just be a nightmare...
However - what about a monthly tourney?
This gives us plenty of time to sort out commitments and game organization.
Something like the last Sunday in every month for example.
What do people think?
-----------
A few suggestions if we do this:
1] Teams are picked the weekend BEFORE the match (any last minute drop outs could be substituted as with the 'Jingle Bombs' tourney by X-Fire on the night).
2] The map is also picked ahead of time so that teams have a chance to discuss their tactics BEFORE the game (we could X-Fire or email each other).
3] EVERYBODY GETS A GAME: To ensure that it's not just the same people who get to play in teh tourney all the time we could:
a] Alternate the game day - last Sunday or Monday or whatever of every month, and...
b] Have a set number of places just for people who turn up on the night (picked on whether they have had a game before).
We could poll to see which are the best two days? Sunday and Monday do seem the most popular though so would be a good place to start.
I'd like to see this and I'm sure we can make it work, good idea Ranger.
IMHO I think this would REALLY take the shine off any 6 monthly tournaments to be run in the future ....the basic thinking would be "oh God, ANOTHER tournament.....canI really be bothered ?"
We have ticked along quite nice with the present set-up ....
and to be honest the admins already have enough on their plates doing the day to day stuff behind the scenes that take up a lot of their available playing times as it is.
so my 2p worth I would say no ...leave things as they are!
this is only my opinion though ...and not meant to offend anyone ;)
I tend to agree with Madness, though there is no reason why you can't have a small tourney/match if you can organise enough people.
Maybe do it over a couple of nights or what about having two teams that play each other regularly over a couple of maps to earn the right to call the others ones names?

I like that.
Wouldnt take much organising, just make sure you're on the right team.

The simple answer to this then is not to call it a tournament - lets call it a monthly team match!
LOL
...The bottom line is that BF2 is basically a match based game - so it's very hard to then see why anyone would have a problem with actually running a match!
- I mean - we play matches ALL the time anyway! And nobody seems to be fed up with that yet!
:)
Simply having a slightly more organized monthly match shouldn't niggle anyone too much - and if it does, then you don't HAVE to join in that match!
It's a nice friendly take it or leave it thing! (That's why I suggested reserved slots for those that decide to become involved at teh last minute).
Let's not turn this into a 'this is to formal and organized' debate - those that want to join in will join in, those that don't won't.
Easy and simple - and VERY democratic (you vote with your 'feet' - er, or your mouse! LOL)
OK lets put together two teams, say about 10 a side, and then once a month troll for a convenient evening when most are available and start it off. Initially we could make it the first Monday in the month with a bit of flexibility.
If there are some reserves then we should always be able to make the number up. :D
If we play each map both ways we have about a years worth of monthly games. At the end of the year we can crown the dMw league champions! 8)
First problem is to pick two team captains. Then they can wrestle to pick the other squad leader, I am assuming two squads per team. And the it'll be a playground selection from the volunteers. What do you reckon?
it sounds a great idea, But..... :g:
As most of us play as much and often as RL allows. I'm not sure if all the work of getting people on the server By say 8. then finding reserves (which turns in to 9 before you know it) just to play one map. when we would have played 2 maps on a normal night seems organising stuff for the sake of it. and most dmw games are corkers anyway :dmw:.
Plus, I may be wrong but I think we may be entering a ladder in the new year. :yahoo:
It is the new year :P
