Title: Karkand Night Map - what did we decide?
Post by: Ranger on January 03, 2006, 09:34:25 AM
A while ago we discussed a couple of maps that a guy had redone as night maps (Karkand being one of them)...

I tried these out by setting up a server on my own machine and the maps looked terrific...

Here's my original comments about the maps:

QuoteThere are those two free night time maps that are knocking about that look superb...

Battlefield 2 Nights by StringerStudios (http://bf2nights.stringerstudios.com/index.php)

Now although these are night time DO NOT PANIC - this does not require Special Ops OR night goggles.

Both these maps are beautifully modelled as a clear full-moon type night and have all the street lights lit!

They are superb ~ gives Karkand a whole new twist!

What do you think?

(Again, these maps are FREE to download - you can load them into your BF2 set-up and have a wander round them by starting your own server...They look amazing!)

Finally - if Lib or whoever doesn't want to do these for the dMw server then StringerStudios has their own server running these maps:

70.85.47.250:16567

At the time it seems we were worried that installing these maps might preclude gusts from joining in - but this may be less of a consideration now that we are getting so many dMw guys playing on teh server regularly.

But are there still any technical issues that anyone can see?

I seem to recall that the maps require dedicated server code. This would mean that you can't play the standard map rotation.

Ahhhhh - bugger.

What a shame.

I say this because teh night Karkand is beautiful. The guy has done a fantastic job...

And I really wanted to wait down a dark alley and knife someone! LOL
