Managed to screw up my setup so thought I'll wipe it and reload as you do. Ahh time to find latest drivers for my chipset. Duely installed and loaded everything else. Then when playing counterstrike using opengl drivers I was experiencing random lock ups, Confused me no end even stripped out CS and HL and reloaded the lot but to no avail. It turns out (thanks Squonk) that some of the new mbd drivers conflict with the opengl and cause it to lock up. Anyone else come across this before? I reloaded my old drivers and bingo it all works again. And I can get back to dying to my hearts content!
he only problem I had with openGL was trying to use it in CS with the XP default denonator driver (the one that'scomes with the OS). Of course I forgot that Microsoft ships a version of the detonator driver that doesn't have Open GL working in it. As soon as I had upgraded to nvidia's proper drivers all was well. Maybe you had a similar problem although I can't see the sense in a mobo manufacturer breaking OpenGL on purpose like Microsoft did? They'd have nothing to gain.
No wasn't that coz I had installed the nvidia ones. And the only change that I made was to reload the earlier version of the chipset drivers Via 1.37 I think and then it all worked fine again.
i run every think on the standard XP drivers, i no its probably not the best way to do things but if it aint broke dont fix it.
then you're using Direct3D in Counter-Strike. I don't think there's any real difference between that and OpenGL....
except of course that you wont be able to see all the explicit hardcore sex scenes printed on the walls on Aztec and Dust2 .
nope im in openGL
