Title: Evil popups infecting deadmen homepage?
Post by: Gandalf on February 11, 2003, 08:29:49 AM
I've noticed on a few machines now that there are some evil ads that popup when I close the browser from the deadmen site. Some machines it works, others the site gets blocked via ie6 privacy rule.

This is the blocked cookie....

nitrous.exitfuel.com/js/smolarek_u.js

Seems only to do this on the deadmen site, no others. Is this server spy? I can't find anything in the code but there are a couple of scripts that server spy loads.

Ok, I've looked at the site, it appears to be a pay per visit jobbie so I've moved this topic here to get the admins thoughts on this.

The site is www.exitfuel.com (http://www.exitfuel.com) and to be honest, these things piss me off. A complete waste of bandwidth, and the company will probably fold in a few months anyway!

Thoughts? Or am I just insane

chances are the 'infected' machines have some spyware on them.  Its triggered when it thinks your browsing a site that it has adverts for.

Try Ad-Aware.

ServerSpy - does exactly what it says on the tin.  Related, no doubt, to that notorious adware POS GameSpy.  Better ask the web designer about fixing it...

None of the machines on my network have spyware. And two of the machines I tested the site against are new installs.

All I see is: " Privoxy blocked http://adserv.us/img.cgi?gid=16&t=_top&id=...397&type=iframe (http://adserv.us/img.cgi?gid=16&t=_top&id=1397&type=iframe).
See why or go there anyway"

Privoxy is cool.  :smokin:   It's even available to Windoze users, even though they don't deserve it...
