Well they do have an incredable amount of active clan members AND they run their clan as if it was an actual army, i'd be supprised iff they didn't win tbh...
TG play regular scrims, comps and train, they are also well organised - as we know from the last time they played us, they are difficult to beat. Tactically and strategically they have much more experience, though I'm sure individually we are much better players than the last time we played them.
what about a game anyone fancy offering them? if we get as many players as we did for jingle bombs then we could do well
I think we need to look at what we want here. Do we want to be the most l33t clan around or do we want to be a community of like minded people who look after each other and are here to enjoy our gaming.
I feel that we are very much infants at the BF2 game as opposed to CS which we have been playing for years. Our knowledge is growing and our skills are growing and I'm sure we will enter some BF2 League at some point in the future. I believe that there is a fine line between starting too early and just being a whipping boy (down Benny) or giving it a bit of time and playing competitively albeit losing a lot initially but learning as we go. It's hard to call but I guess that a few months more would see us ready to start thinking about competitive matches. At present we are enjoying our games but we aren't seeing enough regular gaming to consider a match IMHO.
2p from me ;)
no worries blueball i enjoy non ranked, non clan, non competitive games a lot more, i agree that as a clan we need to work together and improve on cs(not too much) and bf2( a good wee bit) and wow(ask the wowies...... ) ,etc, but a fun game against them would be........fun
maybe im just being sentimental about ranger, im going to check my tg account now to see if he's replied to my email

I agree absolutely
I think we should play more CS :D
Its a purely personal thing, but until I get decent enough hardware and internet to be able to enjoy BF2 online, it has very little interest for me. One of the reasons Fri night CZ is so popular is that everyone can run it, and people turn up knowing that people will be there.
The hardware reqs for BF2 limit the amount of people availiable straight away.

I also enjoy our games on the Meathook a great deal, however I think there is no substitute for competitive play regardless of what game or sport you play. You only get better by playing better opposition. The longer you wait, the further you fall behind the standards of the opposition.
Can't we be both? ie we play competitive and be a like minded friendly community? I certainly don't want us to be competitive at the expense of being friendly and fair minded though.
There are players in dMw who have been playing BF2 for over 6 months, many hours a week so individual skill wise I feel we are already there, however tactically and strategically we are niave as we don't play competitive matches. Personally I'm envious of the CS guys, you seem to be well organised, have training days, comps, after match reports, etc - as a BF2er I want the same things.
However it would appear I'm in a minority judging by other members remarks and I appreciate not everyone wants to play competively

No mate I don't think you are in the minority.
i certainly want BF2 to grow in the same way CZ did. My feeling is that if we started competitve play just now we would get our ass handed to us on a plate and it would be demoralising more than educational. I think WE (all of us that play BF2) need to put our minds together and arrange some internal games, so we can improve our collective skill. You are right that there are some very skilled players and you are also right that our teamwork on BF2 isn't as good as it is in CZ. It is for al of those reasons that I feel it will be a couple of months before we are ready to enter competitions without being discouraged by the outcomes.
I would ask everyone to be patient with us and we'll get there, at present we are sorting out the restructure of the admin group so we can properly support all games we play (WoW, BF2, CZ and LFS/GTL) - we are also trying to organise the rebuilding of the website and if necessary the forum all to accomodate the necessary changes needed to move us forward. Please understand it doesn't happen overnight and that we are moving as fast as we can. It is to everyone's benefit that we do this and once we get it bedded in then we will be better placed to look at tactics/training/matches for all our games :D
Hopefully my comments will assuage peoples "fears" ;) and you can see that we do intend to keep things improving :)
PS Have we really been playing BF2 for 6 months?

On a personal note the reason I don't play CS isthe Steam thing puts me of and it would feel like I was going backwards playing CS after BF2. *no offence intended to the CS guys*
We can't deny BF2 needs a fairly decent pc to run it on but you can run it albeit at med/lower settings and still have fun - I was doing this for a long time before I upgraded though the memory requirements suck I know. The good thing is if your machine will run BF2 you can bet it will have no problem running any other game on the market!! :D
I know dMw historically is also a CS clan so its bound to be hugely popular here.
How many players does CS get on a friday? Sunday and Monday nights we average about 12-16 players on Bf2.
My enrollment for BF2 was in October but 6 months is correct (remembers the waiting period before that before it finally came out).
An internalmatch: set it up I'd say (otherwise I'll try something).

Thanks BlueBall, that is good to hear :)
I like the idea of internal scrims before we venture onto ladders etc, adding competitive play but in an environment we know will be fair and teamwork encouraged.
I appreciate these things don't happen overnight and theres a considerable amount of work involved. Could I ask that one of the admins let us know how things are proceeding say every month? Not to check up on you guys, but its nice to hear how we are progressing as a community. Just a thought?
I for one am excited about these future prospects :dribble:

ok ive heard from Ranger and hes ok, nothing bad has happened to him, just thought id let you all know
Yeah, unfortunately, laptops and BF2 dont mix. Laptops, BF2 and Uni ResNet with lots of closed ports are a definite non-starter. I'm fine on an empty server. As soon as people join, I get kicked off because I think that the port which handles player data is blocked. That's the only explanation I could think of.
When I'm at home with decent Internet, I can run single player ok, but it seems that the extra workload of an Internet game is too much, and it gets really jumpy, laggy etc.

The oldest games I still fire up for once a few times a year is the original Civilization and Railroad Tycoon Deluxe.
I agree that it might be an idea to get some training/organisation sessions for matches, but I reckon we're ready (read:"we're ready" as "I'd like") to play some 8v8 (or 16v16 on a good night!) friendlies. I think we might have trouble pulling together enough players for regular in-house 16v16 BF2 games. 8v8 in-house we should be able to manage with some organisation perhaps once a week with a following wind?

On a side note... My old pc runs BF2 at "medium" settings @1280x960 without any real trouble or noticeable lagginess due to bad framerates or cpu-chugging. CSSource @1024 (less than 1024 makes little difference) holds me to ransom (especially certain maps!) with laggy gameplay (cpu/gpu lagginess - computer feels as if it actually takes a noticeable time to react to my inputs)
I haven't seen Ranger on TG or x-fire for weeks now :( (or here)
Is he on holiday or summat?
he hasn't posted for yonks, and knowing how he posts, I'm a bit worried about him
hope everything's ok in Rangerland
just to let you all know that ranger is alive and well, he's residing at tg ( as big ranger) at the mo so you may be able to get a hold of him there, he's not around much any more for reasons known only unto himself (dont ask i dont know)
he's fine and hopes to see you all on the meathook soon
Lo all...
Just thought I would pop by to let everyone know what I'm up to as I've had a few messages asking where I've gone.
I'm no longer 'with' dMw but have joined up with another clan to persue my interests in competitive gaming, advanced squad tactics and larger maps.
Initially, as Sulky reported I had moved across to 'TG' but then found that the US based gaming times were just too 'anti-social' for my needs (BF2 at 2-4am is not recommended! LOL)...
And so I now reside at the OBC clan where I am heavily involved with both platoon scrimming (internal) and OBC's European scrim team - 'Delta Force', which I recently successfully tried out for.
OBC have a lot of the stuff 'out of the box' that I used to hammer on about - fixed squads, competitive scrimming on a weekly basic, tactical practise on thier own practise server, set roles and rosters, dedicated SF server, dedicated city maps server, etc, etc...
-- This, I should say, is absolutely no slight at dMw ~ just how my gaming needs developed.
SO there you have it. I am alive and well - and I did fully intend to keep popping onto Meathook, but there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day!
I'd like to thank dMw for a fantastic grounding in organized BF2 play - as well as (importantly) lots of fun and the chance to meet some really nice people.
Best wishes for the future...
Big-Ranger
