Hi Lads! I downloaded map Pack 3 from this link
http://mapping.totalbf2.com/mappack3.htm (http://mapping.totalbf2.com/mappack3.htm)
Then i went to single player to check it out. The Vanilla maps are visable as in they show on the right whilst the loading bar (white) progresses at the bottom. However when i click on the maps in the map pack....i notice the square on the right which normally shows the map in question as the game loads is blank?
The white bar finishes loading then my game disappears to desk top CTD's?
Any ideas of what i have not done properly?
I downloaded the files to the same folder as i installed BF2 to.
Map description is all there ie: details of say Alcatraz and dont fall in the water etc.
Thank you!
Ubique
mine don't work either :(
maybe they don't like single player?
:help2:
I have a feeling that they are multiplayer only.
If you want to check them out solo though, just start your own server and run around.
If I understand correctly it takes masses of processing to come up with bot paths for SP gaming in BF2 - which is why olny 16-player versions of the defaults (and not all the defaults either) are available.
works fine in multiplayer
cheers fellas 8)
 ooOOP's! Never thought of that! I will try the Multiplayer in a minute.
Are the servers ranked?
Thank you

nope :eyebrow: ;)
Nope, the DMW BF2 servers are not ranked.
On that note though, what would we need to do to make them ranked? I'm not necessarily saying we would want to (we'd probably become more popular, and/but it'd make it more difficult for regulars to join and we'd get more people not playing the DMW way), but if we did what would it entail? Would we still be allowed to boot people who weren't playing our way (i.e. were lonewolfing or somesuch), were swearing, or similar? Would we still be allowed to password the server if we got a massive influx of people who were not playing by our rules, or is one of the parts of being ranked that you have to be open to all?
As i've said before, I tend to get a much better score on the DMW server than on ranked ones, because I can work with teammembers who actually work with me, and you don't get base-raped and such. If I could add my DMW scores to my ranking (which I tend not to do so much because of my aforesaid problems with ranked servers) i'd be well away.
Plus having pried one out of Dewey's cold dead fingers I want to get my hands on my very own DAO-12 :dribble:

I spend 10 minutes on a server trying to find a squad, or partial squad that'll work together. Sometimes I form the squad and then gradually gather a band of squad members to trek arouns with. Surprising how much better your squad fares against the usual random loners out on the battlefield.
After 10 minutes (or a map at the most) if I've had no joy I'll probably switch to another server and try my luck there. Good servers remain in the favourites and are where I start :)
Biggest hint I can give is to look for clan servers and try to join a squad with one or two of the clan members in it, or one that is lead by one of the clan-members. They're usually more likely to work as a team.

Aah, see, I didn't realise you had to pay to be ranked. Or was that just a guess?

What i'd quite like to do is find a ranked server with a reasonable number of spaces on it (They do exist, I found one t'other day with only 1 guy playing on it, in the UK, at about 9pm. Had good ping times too) and descend with an entire squad's worth of DMW-ers. Or maybe 2 squads. See how well we fare. Unfortunately it's generally just a lot easier to play on the Hook, and rank at other times on yer own, just not nearly as fun.
I still would suggest a PublicServerRaid on a Sunday or so. Also using Xfire to locate where a clanm8 is playing works. I've allready played with Dewey once and against Ranger.
A Ranked server costs a quit bit of money from what I've heard.
A short Googlesearch: $4.99 a slot per month.

This assumes people remember to run XFire when playing, especially if they're ranking and not during one of the normal DMW game times. Hint... Hint... :narnar: ;)
I seem to remember that "unmodified" was a requirement as well.
AAS wouldn't be allowed.
I go on ranked servers to get warmed up before playing on the dMw server and because I like playing around with the unlocks. Duvel likes ranked servers for the stats, medals etc and their is something satisfying about getting them.
Playing with and against new players every night is also benefical to learn new tactics and sharpen up your skills, it also adds variety to Bf2, playing against different people. The downsides though are obvious, however if I now come face to face with a bunny hopper, dolphin diver I usually come out top anyway so they don't bother me any more - besides when the patch comes out they won't be any of that happening anyway :D
A ranked server would have the positive spin of bringing a lot of potential dMw wannabees onto our server and we could promote our way of playing - . Downsides are the cost, having to administer the site more due to idiots and admins having to make spaces for dMw members when spaces are full. Theres probably other stuff I'm not aware of as I am not an admin.
What do we all think on this? Is it benefical or not? Do the advantages out weight the disadvantages, is it worth the cost?
Discuss.

I've already got Pendragon a DA0-12 using his account  I should set up a business :D
I don't think we'll need 1. There are emptyservers out there and if we just get in there with a couple of us we wont have any costs or so. That's why I've set up the other post aswell.
I might have a little warm-up on a ranker tonight....
what's the quickest way to gather points as medic?

Get on a Karkand 24/7server and join a squad. Stay close to the Squadleader. Keep your eyes and ears open and watch the minimap.

What Duvel said, but try and get on a 64 player map (more people to medic) you don't even have to shoot anyone, just revive and repeat - I regularly get in top placings just doing that - you'll soon have your unlocks though it can get a bit dull.
