Title: small laptops.
Post by: Penfold on January 27, 2006, 05:57:18 PM
I'm looking for a small laptop that people can take on presentations to clients. Ideally no more than £1,000. THings such as powerpoint and media presentations.

Someone has suggested the Sony Vaio range and someone else the Averatec.
Does anyone else have any suggestions.

I've never bought a laptop - nor do I know much about them.

Any pointers gratefully rec'd.

Thanks

Ok what do you want it to do? If its a budget job look at the dell range if not i would strongly recommend the toshiba range. It should ideally have at least 512mb ram.

Thanks.

I need it to view large size images, powerpoint presentations and generally work as a desktop machine would. Also for showing clients their websites etc.

Inspiron 630m (http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/notebooks_Q4_W13_inspn_630m_N01631?c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&l=en&s=bsd)
1.7Ghz, 512mb ram, 40 gb hdd, 14.1" screen
or
Inspiron 9300 (http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/notebooks_Q4_W13_inspn_9300_N01931?c=uk&cs=ukbsdt1&l=en&s=bsd)
1.86 Ghz, 512Mb ram, 60gb hdd, 17" screen, x300 gfx card

We do very few calls on the Inspiron range as opposed to the Latitudes

one thing i want to emphasize for dell systems is that their technical support is pretty poor you get transferred to anywhere in europe and they cost £0.50 PER MINUTE! I did notice whilst browsing through the alienware website that they have a nice looking laptop with good specs for £599, however to get that price i think you need to mail in a form or something

alienware sentia notebook (http://www.alienware.co.uk/Configurator_Pages/sentia.aspx?SysCode=PC-EU-LT-SENTIA&SubCode=SKU-PERFORMANCE)

I went ahead and bought the Dell Lappy as it gave me more bang for my buck.... Thanks for the suggestions

overall very nice - could have been smaller but then I'm not going to have it moving around too much - just meetings.

Once question I do have though.

The lappy has a bluetooth connection. Does that mean I can buy a bluetooth mouse and not need to have any wires or dongle or anything? How does that work?

Thanks
