Ok people. I pay £25 for NTL Broadband - cable 128/512, I wanna go somewhere else, point me.
If your in an ADSL enabled are then i'd highly recommend Eclipse (//http://http:www.eclipse.co.uk) as an isp, i've been with them for nearly a year and know others that have too, not one of them has a bad word to say about them. What has Albert got to say?
do any adsl's give you a fixed ip address for no extra cost. as I.m on blueyonder (which is great) but wont an extra £95 a month for fixed ip :(
Afaik most dsl providers give you upto 5 (maybe more) fixed i.p's for no extra cost so long as you can account for why you actually need them.
For definately do nearly all give you the option of static or dynamic ip.
I also use Eclipse and they are outstanding. I've had a connnection up with them for 43 days without a disconnect.
However their newsfeed, like all ISP newsfeeds, is crap (they do have alt.binaries.erotica.gimpsuits though, which is bonus)
They had some problems bringing in a new billing system last year but that's all sorted out now.
http://www.adslguide.org.uk (http://www.adslguide.org.uk) would also be a place to check and you can compare user rating for upto six ISP's
ok, to add some details, I don't wanna be NTL anymore. Demon are doing a deal at the same price, but I'd need to buy a modem. ....
Internal / External / USB or not, (I'd assume not)
help me Rhonda. I had a look at dslreports. I figure I don't wanna up my cost so it has to be £25.....
Any horror stories from Demon? Anyone wanna, point me at a modem?
well, I like my blueyonder connection, which is essentially the same package as NTL by the look of it. £25pm (if you get your phone and/or tv through telewest) The one time I called tech support they were very thorough and although it took a long time my connection problems were solved. I've used blueyonder for about 4 years now. The IP address isnt exactly static as you know, but if you are connected 24/7 the ip remains the same. In fact I think it only changes when you reset the cable modem.
:D
I got 2.5 Mbit/0.75 Mbit (down/up) and I pay 400 SEK per month (about £25).

Yeah but you pay £5 for a pint of lager :P
thats not far off what it costs down here, so I'd rather have the cheap, fast broadband :D

Nah ... more like £3. :?
When I did my ADSL research (right before BT told me I couldn't have it) the best peeps were Nildram and Zen. I would have gone for Zen, they have real happy users (no jokes please) and that's always a good sign.
TL. 8)
Benny, benny, Benny, BENNY !! Here are 4 or 5 people highly recommending an isp to you and your going to ignore them and goto a totally unknown one just because they've got a deal on at the moment ! Are you crazy? Screw the £20 you'll be saving and instead save yourself tons of hassle and USE ECLIPSE.
Yes USE ECLIPSE and get yourself a USB modem if you don't like tinkering or an ADSL Modem/Router if you do.
Oh and use Eclipse Internet (or Zen who are good to)
Bugger off he's my referral, i want the month's free subscription for recommending him. :x
There is no doubt that it was indeed you who mentioned Eclipse first and are therefore in line for any free months rental.
However I would think that now you have mentioned it Benny may well think your recommendation was based on this fact alone and not that Eclipse is a great ISP regardless. He'll probably now go and get a Zen account and so you'll get nowt
um...slight problem. I don't have BT phone connected....bugger.
If you need a cable modem I believe I have one somewhere.
You need to recommend 6 people to get 1 month free anyway smiley, T'was only a joke.

I guessed as much. Still if you keep pushing Benny you'll be five to go :)
And a BT line is a definate plus for Broadband...otherwise it's just a wire hanging out your window
ok, gonna confirm that I'm dumb...
I have an NTL phone and am quite happy, there is a BT phone line in the house, but it is inactive. Does it have to be a live/used BT line?
yes.
TANGO. So I have to have live BT to get ADSL....that sucks. I like my NTL phone.....ah well. I'll have to switch.
