OK, I have now had a chance to look round the maps that were submitted for consideration and I have set out below my personal opinion on them:
CANDIDATES
cs_rio - an excellent map that used to be in the N42 rotation. You need stealth and guile to win on this map.
as_risingsun - Another past N42 map. Lots of options, always played well irrespective of team size. Nice details.
cs_shogun - Lovely map that I hope will become a favourite on the MH. Lots of routes to use, all leading to the large house in the middle of the map. But there are plenty of entry and exit points to use.
de_747 A brilliant role reversal of the normal cs_747 map, but also taking place at 30,000 feet not on the ground! Might play very well indeed for the team sizes we usually get. Could also play like a dog though /me sticks neck out.
de_mog - A very new map only just released. Looks superb, should be a real creepy one to play, there are soo many hiding places for both teams to use! Should be a blast (pun intended)!
as_hunted - A CS conversion of a HL level (and very popular TFC map). A nice big as_map but with a highly open single rescue point for the hossies. I suspect it would play nicely as long as the Ts didn't just sit down and camp the helicopter.
POSSIBLES
cs_delta_assault - A variation on the cs_assault map. Different though it was, it didn't really ring my bell. Having said that, I would rather see it in the rotation that cs_assault as it offers a little more to the CTs.
as_tundra - Y'all know this one don't you!
de_predator - We have all played this one on MH at some point. It is a 'nice' map IMO, but because the bomb points are so close together it does not take larger teams well when we draw put the PCS limits at their usual 'close to the bomb site' position - this leads to it being a bit of a fire fight and the CTs never get to engage in the trees. I think if this were to play in the rotation we would have to have special rules to allow CTs to attack the Ts to an extent, hence opening the map up and allowing access to the trees and tunnels etc.
de_herrenberg - Very big map, possibly too big, or at least it seemed that way when I went round it. Not sure about it, would need to see it in action to be absolutely sure how it plays.
de_militia - An interesting juxta position on the usual cs_militia. Might make for quite a change.
Unfortunately the long awaited cs_bikini and cs_greenhouse are not yet out, whilst de_wolfenstein is still in beta, so maybe we'll try those at the next review. I ruled out cs_prospeedball and de_springfield_v2.
One thing that might be worth having on the server is the scout_map and deagle_map. Whilst not good fodder for the normal rotation, they really sharpen your aim and might be good as pre-match warm ups?
I'd be interested in your feedback so that I can post the list of possibles along with a set of target dates for the play testing of the candidates. I look forward to reading your posts.

Are we going to produce a map pack of the choosen maps one the rotation is set? a kind of dMwMapPackII.zip deal.

Yep, a map pack can be made up no probs. I envisage asking Sadako to put up the single map download links (for 56kers) and also a dMw map pack link. I'll take it as read that if nobody has posted anything to the contrary by this evening that the 6 chosen maps should be announced for play testing.
Final question is - do we advance with just the 6 maps above (i.e. you are all mad enough to trust my blind judgement), or do we increase the number of maps to be tested so that we can include some of the possibles? 6 maps is enough for a map pack, 8 is the max me thinks. If I had to pick 2 others to test I would pick de_herrenberg and de_predator with very loose map limits.
Another option, in addition to the map testing, we could ask if peeps wanted to swap militia and assault for their newer and tweaked counterparts?
Can everyone have a quick think about these things please?

I think 6 is enough for one go. I feel we can play, enjoy, and get good at 6 new maps hence get max enjoyment. Any more and we may be a little awash.

So long as the changes have not ruined the game play then I'm all for that.

Who is going to have to load the new maps onto the server for us in time for the play test?

I'll apply the cs_rio fix and amend the mapcycle soon after.
It appears that all the work I did this afternoon has been undone.
