SoG's Raid Group 2 had it's first run into Molten core last night and with just 34 people took out the first three of the ten Molten Core bosses.

Lucifron, Magmadar and Gehennas all sucumbed to Raid Group 2

Monday marks RG2's first trip into Onyxia's Lair and once Onyxia is down RG2 will head back over to Molten Core to start attacking Garr.

RG2 still has one or two spaces left for particular classes, if you want to apply please read this (http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/index.php?showforum=164) forum topic and follow the noted instructions.

SoG's Raid Group 1 cleared Molten Core last night; the raid was full of good spirit, good humoured banter and only a couple of mistakes.  The final clearance time for all 10 Molten Core bosses was:

3 hours 28 minutes.

Officially that's the fastest we've cleared Molten Core so far.  Grats all!!

SoG's RG2 took down the first 6 of 10 bosses on their 2nd MC run tonight in under 4 hours I believe.. Great job and gratz to them for 3 1st bosskills more (Garr, Baron Geddon and Shazzrah) :D

If we keep up the good work we'll be done with BWL before RG1  ;)

RG2 did a heck of a job last night (supported by a few RG1 members to fill the class need gaps).

Their second run in MC and 6 bosses downed in one night - that's superb progress!  Thanks to Bastet for leading the raid, GJ Sir!

RG2 raid speed has started to pick up.

Last night they took Onyxia down first attempt - albeit with only 14 people alive in phase 3, but they did it nonetheless.

They then went into Molten Core and in 2hrs 50 mins cleared Lucifron, Magmadar, Gehennas, Garr, Baron Geddon and Shazzrah.

RG2 did not wipe during any of the above bosses.

Monday will see the defeat of Sulfuron and Golemagg, followed by RG2's first attempt at Majordomo Executus and with luck a quick peek at Ragnaros!

GJ RG2 - w2g!!

Ragnaros went down to 28% on the first attempts, so resisted defeat tonight, but he will go down next time I am sure!  :D

Not a 40 person raid, but here's a slight aside:

With Guild pickup groups Zul'Gurub has been a 'farming' instance for months.

With Guild pickup groups in AQ20 (The Ruins of An'Qiraj) we've been clearing all the bosses with ease for some time now with the exception of the final boss, Ossirian.

Last night we sent in a group with the sole intention of taking Ossirian down and after getting the difficult pull wrong three times (and wiping as a result) we managed to get the initial pull phase and transition to the main fight right.  That first correct pull led to a steady and controlled fight and 5 minutes later saw Ossirian killed. :D

Grats to the SoG members in on that raid.  Like ZG already is a farming instance, AQ20 is now officially a full clearance instance for us and now that we have proven tactics it should be on farming status RealSoonNow™.  SoG's thanks go to Lunares, Menedil and Kregoron for persevering with both AQ20 and ZG and leading all the raids there.

RG1 wiped twice and still only took 2hrs 37 mins to clear MC - just 1 minute outside our Guild record. :blush2:

I think a 2 hour clearance is on when we get our heads screwed on and focus just a wee bit.

Sunday sees the first attempt to do a single night clearance of BWL.  We're 90% done there in a night, but we just need to finish the job!

SoG RG1 tonight completed its first single night clearance of Blackwing Lair, albeit with a really messy start (a wipe on Razegore, a wipe in the supression chamber and a wipe on the first attempt on Nefarian).  In the end though we prevailed and Razegore, Vaelestraz, Broodlord Lashlayer, Firemaw, Ebonroc, Flamegore, Chromaggus and Nefarian were all killed.  It means we get to spend Tuesday in AQ40 now rather than having to go back to BWL to finish the job :)

Time was 4hrs 48 mins, real slow going, but I reckon we'll get down to about 4hrs for the clearance from next week.

Gratz RG1!

After suffering a few set backs over the last couple of weeks RG1 got back on track last night with a first single night clearance of The Prophet Skeram, Battleguard Sartura, Fankriss the Unyielding, Princess Huhuran and the five infamous and immensely difficult Anubisath Defenders that guard the Twin Emperors throne room.  Great improvement to get through to the Twin Emperors room in one night and we look forward to a night of learning on both the Anubisath Defenders (who will have respawned when we next return) and the Twins themselves.

RG1 cleared BWL tonight and after a very shaky 3 attempts at Vaelestraz actually cleared the instance in a total time of 2 hours 50 minutes, a new record for SOG.  If we skip the two wipes on Vael then 2 hours 30 is about the equivalent time.  Nice work folks!

Now combine those two 40 manish raids

1h30min + 2h30min = 4 hours. Starting at 19:15 finishing @ 23:30...(getting into BWL 15min)

I'm afraid it will not work that way..... as 4 hours of constant pulling is a little bit to much I think....

Good job fellows!!!

SOG RG1 got the Twin Emperors down to about 40% tonight in a pretty smooth encounter before finally succumbing to their melee and spell damage.  Raid DPS was a little bit above the required level for us to defeat them and so we're going back to take them down on Tuesday after a quick run through BWL to clear the instance first.  Wish us luck!

Question though, do you everytime have to take a certain route to a boss or does defeating 1 boss mean you get to some sort of next part off the game?
Just interested and curious here...

Post by: TeaLeaf on November 13, 2006, 09:04:55 AM
In most instances there is no choice about the route and order in which you can do things.  So each Wednesday morning when the main raid instances are reset we can enter them on Thursday night and all the Bosses are alive, all the trash mobs are back and we have to start all over again.  For example in The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (home to the Twin Emperors) then there is only one way through the instance.  We have to kill the Prophet Skeram in order to access the passageway that leads to Battleguard Sartura.  We have to kill Sartura in order to get to the tunnel that leads to Fankriss the Unyielding and he is blocking the tunnel we need to go down to reach Princess Huhuran.  Huhu's room has an exit that leads to the Twin Emperors room and there is a door in the side wall there that opens once you have killed them, that door leads to C'Thun, the final and most dangerous boss in AQ40.

Molten Core: Only Lucifron and Magmadar can be killed 'out of order', but due to their geographical location within the instance they are always done first.  Thereafter there is a set order in which to kill the 10 Molten Core bosses.

Blackwing Lair:  There is zero choice here as there is only one route.  Bosses are always killed in the same order.

The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj: There is zero choice here as there is only one route.  However there are two additional and optional bosses in the instance that can be accessed after the second & third bosses have been killed.

Naxxramas: The instance is sectioned into different Wings which you can clear in any order you like before progressing to the end bosses.

Most other instances are the same in this respect, you have to kill a particular boss in order to access the next boss.  Blizzard design the instances to allow you to gradually build your expertise and learn the new skills needed to defeat later bosses.  With each boss they increase the difficulty of the encounter so you learn the basics on the early bosses, then gradually fine tune things as you get deeper into the instance until when you reach the Twins or C'Thun for example you need to be absolutely on top of every aspect of the encounter.

AQ40 for example is largely about teaching the 40 person raid group to work in a number of smaller units (each with their own role), but with a coordination in timing and location.  Like a well choreagraphed fight scene in a movie, each person or gorup has a specific role to play and every single raid member has to be at the right place at the right time and do the right thing in order to defeat the boss.  The fun thing is that no single boss encounter fight is ever exactly the same as the previous one, so you learn to adapt and be sufficiently flexible in your tactics to cope with variations in the fight environment or dynamics, the death of a raid member at an unexpected time (ie someone has to then pick up their role in the fight in addition to their own etc).  Finally, the classes in the raid change each tiem you raid (some people turn up, others are off sick etc), so youhave to learn to do the fights with differing skills within the raid: more or less priests, fewer hunters, an excess of mages, only 4 druids instead of the normal 5 etc etc.  Each of these variations has to be accounted for.  The variations are endless and fascinating - it is one of the key reasons I raid, to see the 40 individuals come together as a team and learn to defeat bosses with less than ideal class balances within the raid group, seeing them learn to work as a team and adapt to changing circumstances.  Awesome fun!

I hope this explains it a little better for you.

SOG RG1 went deeper into AQ40 tonight, took the Twin Emperors for the second time and then did a first time clear of the infamous 'raid-wiping' trash between the Twins' room and C'Thun.

We had two attempts at C'Thun, both really to check our entry strategy, but we got the Eye of C'Thun (C'Thun Part Un) down to 87%.

A FANTASTIC progress raid for RG1 and a superb clear to the final boss in the AQ40 instance.  Only 3 other Alliance Guilds on our Aszune server have killed C'Thun, so to be battling with C'THun is a brilliant achievement for SOG!  Well done all!

Last Sunday night, after finding that the planned raid to BWL was impossible due to the instance server being down), SOG RG1 flew to Naxxramas and into the Spider Wing.  The trash mobs that caused us severe problems went down this time (despite severe decurse/cure difficulties caused by the recent patch) and we quickly cleared to Anub'Rekhan.  Our first tries on Anub'Rekhan were not too bad, getting the bug to between 75-80%.  The raid DPS to kill him is there, we just need to coordinate what we do a little better!  We plan to return again after clearing BWL on Tuesday night.

SOG RG1 entered the Abomination Wing in Naxxramas for the first time tonight.  Final score:

Patchwerk 4 - 0  SOG RG1

We got him down to about 76%, but we need to work on our healing rotations and making sure that all the MTs are over 10k health.  Two of them are, we need four at that level to handle the fight properly.

We'll be back soon, but it was fun going into a brand new wing, fighting new (and very green) trash mobs, clearing to a new boss and having several good attempts.

Most impressive fact of the night:  the Raid DPS reached 11.6k dps. :worship: :worship:
