Title: Guide to GTL
Post by: delanvital on March 11, 2006, 02:31:55 PM
The game
Official page for the game is here (http://www.gt-legends.com/index.php)

After installing the game you need to patch it to 1.1, you can get that here (http://www.gt-legends.com/support_en.php). The major update in this patch is that it allows up to 36 players.

Unless you want to drive your way through the game and unlock the cars you can get the cheat from Ron's site here (http://www.finnglish.co.uk/downloads.htm)
How to do it: put the file in the games root folder, start the game and create a new profile.

Tracks
There is a quite a few unofficial tracks for the game. For a complete list of the unofficial tracks see this here (http://forum.rscnet.org/showpost.php?p=2869726&postcount=1)

Some are having problems downloading them due to the host, so I host some of the most important tracks, which are

A1 ring (http://www.thorlaksson.dk/A1ring.rar)
Brno (http://www.thorlaksson.dk/brno.rar)
Brands Hatch (http://www.thorlaksson.dk/GTL_BrandsHatch.rar)
Misano (http://www.thorlaksson.dk/GTL_MisanoV1.0.rar)
Nordschleife 0.9b (http://www.thorlaksson.dk/Nordschleife_GTL_beta_0.9.rar)
Vagin-.. eh Virginia (http://www.thorlaksson.dk/virginia.rar)

How to install: unpack the directory in the zip into \GameData\Locations\

...but there are others.

Problems to know
If you join a game and you cannot see some of the other cars, change your connection speed (typically swap between ISDN and Cable/ADSL)

If the server you are joining list a name of a track you have, but when you join the server the server is not acting properly (or not allowing you to join) it could very well be because the server is running another track. When you do not have the track, the server browser choses to show the name of a track you DO have  <_<

So if that happens when joining DMR you better be on TS  ;)

Entry (braking) Understeer - Increase the rebound of rear shocks. Decrease the bump of front shocks. Decrease front brake bias.
 Entry (braking) Oversteer - Decrease the rebound of rear shocks. Increase the bump of front shocks. Increase front brake bias.
 Exit (power) Understeer - Increase rebound of front shocks. Decrease bump of rear shocks.
 Exit (power) Oversteer - Decrease rebound of front shocks. Increase bump of rear shocks.
 Steady State Understeer - Stiffen rear springs and/or anti-roll bar. Soften the front springs and/or anti-roll bar.
 Steady State Oversteer - Stiffen front springs and/or anti-roll bar. Soften the rear springs and/or anti-roll bar.

What might appear to be a problem/bug but is in fact not
If you join the DMR channel on TS and hear loud singing in a high pitched voice it is not a bug. You can recognize it by:

a: done by several people at the same time
b: no coordination or tone whatsoever.

That is perfectly normal  :whistle:

Tips

HUD on while being in-car
Our server only allows driving with the internal view, as if you were in a real car. However, when you drive with the external view there are some useful data on the HUD. You can enable the HUD while being in-car, but you need to change a setting in your .plr file:

* Go to userdata\profile name\profile name.PLR and edit that file in a text-editor
* Search for Allow HUD in cockpit="0" and set the value to "1".
* Restart game

It is not suitable to have the HUD on all the time, but you can enable it to see what position you have while racing, what position your lap time will give you while qualifying etc.
When this option is one you can cycle through the steps using '2'. The .PLR file has other setup options that are not available in-game.

Add dates to your replay files, so they wont be overwritten
* Go to userdata\profile name\profile name.PLR and edit that file in a text-editor
* Search for Replays Dated="0" // Replays have date in filename and change to "1"
* Restart game

Completely remove driving aids
Despite driving in "professional" mode, there will still be some aids enabled, i.e. "minimum" as written in-game. These can be disabled in this section of the plr-file in the section [ DRIVING AIDS ]

Set keys up on your wheel
One of the best things to have on your wheel is the rear view. Other good additions is glance right and left.

My in-car clock does not work
Find the key in the key setup that enables it. If that does not work, try and swap between 16bpp and 32bpp color, and resolutions as well.

My mirrors does not work
Some track/car combos have trouble with that, but try and press '1' to see if you can enable them. If this does not work, try same as question above.

No turn indication arrows on some of the tracks?
On the add-on tracks that did not come with the game these arrows are not enabled.

I either turn too much or too little in the corners
Try and adjust 'speed sensitivity steering' in your wheel setup, prob. reduce it.

The mirror is in my sight all the time!
Change seat position. Hold down a mouse key and slide the mouse back/forth. Hold down ctrl for FOV. Additionally, try and enable POV steering in your wheel setup, something like 8-10%

Voice activated TS does change the amount of shared uhm... sounds:

* Strange squeeling noises; that is just a DFP wheel under pressure
* Sudden email support; just Run doing support in the background
* "How real is that" - almost a DMR trademark :)
* Sudden outburst of swear words combined with "crap wheel" - that would be me
* Long, extremly fascinating conversations in either dutch or danish - uhm.. guess who.

Absolute nonsense.  I only ever see anything it it on lap 5 or 6 when the traditional "Getting Lapped" ceremony takes place.

I'd like an oil release button instead. :whistle:

but this doesn't work.

Just make a blank notepad file and save it as TG2001.DYN Place it in the root folder of GTL and make a new profile. You'll have more money than you know what to do with. Buy every car your little heart desires.

 Go to the first link that Sn00ks gave you:

http://www.helpdrivers.com/ingles/listado/panellis.asp?marca=Guillemot&perif=juegos1

scroll down until you can see the second last entry in the list. Click on the link there and it will take you to this page:
