Title: Connection Problems
Post by: Dalto on March 12, 2006, 02:58:19 PM
As most of you know, i get slight connection problems lol. Id like to explain the problems i get now, to see if anyone has any idea what causes the problem or how it can be fixed.

When in game, occasionally i will just lag out and then get disconnected, this usually happens to everyone once in a while, but for me it is in phases. Ill log on in the morning and then it will be ok for so many hours, then all of a sudden ill lag out, and it can do tis upto 10 times in a row, sometimes more. Its rather annoying when in raids etc too.

When i do get disconnected from the game, its only the game that disconnects, not the internet, as msn is still on and i can still load webpages. I thought it may have been something with my router but wasnt too sure how to check. I tried with my old adsl modem and the latency seemed a lot better but it would still occasionally disconnect, so now im thinking it may possibly be my ISP. Rang BT and they just have a recorded message saying they are experiencing problems.

So it is most likely the ISP, but would the ISP cause just the game to disconnect and not the wholeinternet, was quite confused about that bit.

Feel free to try and explain or whatever.

CHeers all :)

Hm, cant say im very good at this, but this may solve it :

Check the properties of your primary connection , then see if there's a big difference in packages sent and recieved, if you aint getting alot or vica verca you have Isp problems or something with your cable "system" is wrong.

Or if have opened any "ports" lately, on the router your isp may prevent you from launcihng applications that is very Internet craving.

The thing that happened to me, is that if you have a virus that can spread trough your connection the ISP blocks all internet activity, or slows it down.

Hope it helped:)

Reckon I might be on the same ISP, and I have DC's sometimes, but not as much as you. I normally get loads just when I get home from school, and load up WoW in IF. It doesnt like that, so my whole router buggers off.

If it happens in IF it sure is the number of packages sent / recieved, IF takes a shitload of your memory & inet :)

I had my router in my room and it was using an extension telepphone wire, so im guessing it may have been making the connection less efficient.

Router is now downstairs though, and im back on wireless, rather than being hard wired. No phone wire extension is being used now either.
SO far i havent disconnected, touch wood, so hopefully it may have fixed the prob. But ill see how it is over the next few days.
