Title: Summer Work
Post by: A Twig on March 15, 2006, 01:10:58 PM
As the above title may suggest I'm looking for a months work experience over the summer in the London South-East Region. Ideally it would be paid work experience if that is possible.

As I'm going on to study Mechanical Engineering something in that direction would be good. However, electronics type things could also be a possibility. I can PM a CV to anyone who requires.

Can anyone help with this?

Cheers

have you checked with your careers dept? Usually have an idea or two. Or alternatively ask your supervisor/tutor/head-of-dept/friendly-lecturer

Alternatively check out firms (big ones are more likely but may have taken applicants a while back. Small firms may need prodding) and do some phoning/legwork, see if anyone's on the lookout. Best summer job I landed was with lucent tech in Swindon between 3rd and 4th years - bit over a grand a month helps pad out the computer and beer funds 8)

alternatively, department stores and electronics stores might like a knowledgeable person working at the pc/audio/tech counters. Finance&management like engineers too, though how interesting the job is may affect that choice... ;)

I can look up relevant study-jobs in your field that are put up at my Uni here... but is that an option for you?

Erm, it depends on the duration of the jobs. Largely I'd say not really, but if it was a really good opportunity to go abroad and work for a month or so doing relevant things then that would definitely be worth a look. My languages aren't great though, vaguely passable French and thats about it
