Adopted Forum Signature Size: 400x75 pixels max, and a file size no greater than 22kb.
Forum signatures have started creeping up in size again folks. I just read one thread where the same person posted two one line posts, one after the other in the same thread. After deduction of my browser frame and the task bar his two posts completely filled by 18" monitor screen.
I delved into the signature and found it to be a massive 410 x 180 Jpg taking up a whopping 55kb
I had to edit one user's signature today and remove not one but FOUR separate [img] tags that took up about 1,200 x 300
Please remember that the general forum settings used to allow a signature of 96 x 96 . The first of the above signatures used some EIGHT times this amount and the second one used up a staggering THIRTY-NINE times as much space :(
I know 96x96 is small, so I'm not asking people to restrict to that size, but just to remember that the signature should be a *minor* part of your post, not the majority of the content and all of the quality ;)
If you want to show off your artwork please link to it in the appropriate section. Signatures are great, but they are signatures not the post themselves. So PLEASE let's try to keep the signature size down please, this is after all a forum not a gallery.
Thank you.
TL.
PLEASE ALSO KEEP YOUR AVATAR'S SMALL TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF WHITE SPACE IN EACH POST.
you can turn them off even the small ones get to you as well in user options ;)
Yep, I can also block them for all users on the forums, but then you'd not get to see them at all whatever you put in your personal options. :P
The real answer is to be reasonable and the above need to consider if they are the wrong side of the reasonable line. Which side do you think they were?

I agree that many sigs are ott :) some people may wish to turn them off entirely, just reminding them that they can ;)
Is mine to big? (signature that is :norty: )
If so, please let me know.
Signatures? What signatures?
As you asked Duvel, I find that size about twice as big as is acceptable. You are the happy owner of the above mentioned "410 x 180 Jpg taking up a whopping 55kb".

Funny you should do such a post. I have just scaled mine down prior to that. Not that it was that much of a nuisance anyway.

1 thing about the size, on the left side you also see all the information like
Tealeaf,
Admin...
....
.....
and so, that also takes space. I had the sig about the size of this so it wouldn't take up extra space. I'll rerquest a nice sig from Doris plz with the apropiate size.
Arctic Fire, check this thread.... ;)

I would guess its not only about the actual size of the img, but if you got 55kb on every post on a topic, it would greatly increase the loadtime of that paricular page, and if ten ppl accessed that page it would greatly increase the load on the server...
And the userinfo below the avater is just text, thats not that big..
400 x 80 resonable?
i could sclae it down .. and duvel ill make you one soon

Can anyone make a BF2 themed sig for me?
The NS forums have a sensible sig rule: 400x75 pixels max, and a file size no greater than 22kb. Not bad guidelines.

Seems a lot more reasonable to me :D

may i ask...why dont you like sigs?
well not so much dont like them
but you dont seem to fond of the idea of images in sigs
I got no problem with images in signatures in posts at all. I got not problem with signatures either. Until they dominate the post itself. Like for example when someone posts FOUR images one under the other and they fill about 75% of my flat panel's viewable screen.

Totally agree, when the majority of the page is taken up by people's sigs and the relevant stuff is just 3 lines of text then something's wrong.
Given freedom to make your own sig people go mad, a pic for BF2, a pic for cs, a pic for your name, a pic for a laugh and before you know it you've got a page full of nothing. The size/dimensions mentioned above i'd like to see enfored strictly.
Funnily enough, this is a regular issue on another forum I frequent... huge sigs, or people stacking sigs vertically so that their post takes up an entire screen as a result.
I don't personally care too much about 55kb versus 22kb, but the size (dimensions) is important to me. As for the load on the server, since I don't believe (please correct me if wrong) that the bbs software allows you to upload your sig pics to the deadmen server, it doesn't affect the load on the dMw server whatsoever - it's all just your link.
The other thing to consider on file size alone, is that so long as it's a static image, you download it once, after which it should be cached on your machine, and all you waste is a quick check to see if it has been updated; if not, it uses your cached copy. Hence my not caring about 55kb versus 22kb.
Dimensions though - absolutely concur. I've found in the past that most people are reasonably enough once you mention it politely to them, and if they're not, it can easily enough be done for them :)
Socking great DITTO from me too. How's it hangin' tugs? Life treating you good I hope. :D
Life treating me great, thank you. How are you doing?
I'm still trying to get settled here and finish arranging the house, so my gaming PC is plugged in, but I've not had a chance to actually sit down and play yet! Still, c'est la vie!
:)

Being topical here, was that the verbal equivalent of a Doorman headbut?
