Title: math2 - far worse!
Post by: TeaLeaf on March 21, 2006, 09:53:21 AM
Following the maths flavour, here is the worst math joke ever invented (passed on to me by my father when I was first learning algebra):
QuoteA Chief of a north american indian tribe was getting quite old and his health was failing. He had taken three squaws during his long life and had three sons, one with each squaw. He therefore decided that he needed to set up a trial or test which each of his three sons could undertake to help decide which of them would become Chief after his death.

The Chief announced to the tribe the details of the test: each of the sons had to go out into the wilderness, hunt and bring back the most impressive skin or hide. The most impressive kill would become the new Chief. Having sent his sons off he then sat down next to his squaws and waited for them to return. A long time passed and many times his squaws asked how on earth he would be able to choose between different kills. The Chief remained quiet and just answered that the choice would reveal itself when the time came.

After many hours the first son returned with an immense and impressive Buffalo hide and laid it out in front of the Chief. The Chief smiled warmly at his son and indicated that he should sit on the hide and await the return of his two brothers. The second son returned shortly after carrying a huge male lion skin with mane still intact. He sat down on the lion skin to await the return of the third and final son. Eventually the third son returned to the village and laid out his kill, a monstorus and still muddy hippopotamus hide.

The village and the Chief's squaws were now murmering openly - three impressive kills, but which one would be chosen as the new Chief, it would be a very difficult decision. The Chief paused a moment and a hush descended over the tribe as he stood to announce his decision:

"The winner is clear" he said, "the third son will be the new Chief when I die". The villagers were unclear how this decision had been reached and so asked how the Chief had reached hsi decision. He said:

"The son of the squaw on the hippopotamus hide is equal to the sons of the squaw on the other two hides".

Nevra, it's a play on words relating to the Pythagorus Theorem.  If you know Pythagorus then any remaining problems are either due to it being a lousy joke or it not translating well into your langauge! ;)

Stelling van Pythagoras: a2 + b2 = c2
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stelling_van_Pythagoras (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stelling_van_Pythagoras)

Plus the translation from English to Dutch is a bit difficult aswell.

Don't think it translates well into Norwegian either. It just makes my head hurt. Is it supposed to do that?
