The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_overview.htm (http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_overview.htm)
I've just bough it off play.com for 25£
Looks really good and I never did get to play Morrowind.
I'm sorely tempted, but I value my free time too much. Morrowind was such a time-sucker it was unbelievable.
It does indeed look shiny. I'd be interested how people find it, as I may well pick up a copy when my WoW addiction has lessened (probably another month or so). I've heard that, while the world is amazing to just wander round and explore and do random jobs and quests, the actual single player storyline could do with more polish. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
I'd be a lot more inclined to get this if it had a co-op mode and I could play through with my girlfriend, a-la NeverWinter Nights.
Isn't this like WoW, just without the chat function and no multiplayer? :P
It looks awesome but I don't think it fits my WoW schedule
the differents are WoW has blacksmitting and those stuff....and is multiplayer
In oblivion u can make ure own character..so they dont really are like a Hunter or something.
but in Oblivion u can buy houses also horses(horses only if im right)
it came yesterday but I was too busy trying to get to lvl 40 and my free mount (Pally Bonus :) ).
i h8 that palas and warlocks get free mounts.....I had to pay for it :(

aarggh crap leggit is not just a guild name..
we get a free mount (spell to summon a mount) but we also get plate at lvl40 and thats quite an expense so ive heard.
im getting the imperssion that in Raid situations we are just crap healers that can take some punishment.
is this the wrong class for end game?
Pallies in the end game can be seriously good healers - check out Marduk's profile (http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?879189) or Ekzete's profile (http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?574124) - they're one man mana regen plants. On his own he can pretty much heal himself in battle for an hour solid
Pallies are also used loads for difficult mob pulls (bubble) and their auras, blessings and dispelling are invaluable.
DPS they are not, but they are one class that you simply cannot do without.
TL.
yeah consider them as polyfilla..
its has many uses ;)
and regarding obvilion.. theres no way ime ever gonna place my hands on another morrowind game!
after 5 min it makes me dizzy, and if i keep playing i end up with a headache and also feel like feeding some plants :/

that makes me feel alot better.
i much prefer support roles and paly seem to have lots of different aspects. Just scared myself reading some opinions (on other wow forms) that now appear very wrong.
And I have my GeeGee :D her name is tulip and she eats mostly small orc children.

Wait, isn't this the Oblivion thread? :P
PC zone gave it 93% said it would have scored 96% if it wasn't for the rubbish npc chatting - ie repetitive and non-sensical
Just got it in the post this morning, update to follow I guess.
1st impression is that its pretty good, the game plays fairly easy to get into with the RPG & Questing elements there but not to intense so its no to overwelming for the normal gamers like me out there, the gfx are nice & the control system is simple so that you only have to remember a few keys ( most fpsers will be use to them allready ) & everything else you need to know or find out is through a menu system.
So far I'm fairly impressed, if you like your swords & sorcery & fancy a new game to play, give it a go.
Yeah i like it also.
Normally i don't play these kind of games long but this one will be pld much ;)
Any estimate on how it'll perform on a 2.4GHz comp with a 9800pro and 512Mb RAM?

Aye, I read that, they did make it sound good fun though, the open ended life type thing sounds different.

Yeah, they where raving about it actually, saying how open ended it is, and nice that fighting, etc is down to your skill not a dice roll.

made me, um, buy it. It should have arrived today...
(as a side note, I'm getting a few more CM2006 games done, so I'll update that soon as well)
Played Morrowind for quite a while. Felt quite alone w/o the online ability... Guess I would do the same with this.
Well, I played my way out of the first dungeon.
A bit undecided. Combat is different, a bit thief like with the arra's, but it seemed a bit week in the graphics department. (I've got it on full). The story unfolds well however and the Tom Baker voice does make a difference.
Leaving the sewer it opens into the world and is *MUCH* nicer looking. Didn't get much chance to go further. Looking forward to getting to a town and having a nose around. Don't like the fact it doesn't auto equip better items, don't like how you drop things.
Do like the fact that inventory pauses the game so you can knock up a potion etc. I've made a concious effort to try something other than my usual run and gun. So have gone for......the same as everyone else....an assassin. Mainly due to the PC Gamer review.
More to follow.
Any more news Benninio as I'm thinking of buying it?
I'd say buy it, well worth it imho.

As a side note I've also bought Oblivion, still waiting for those FM upates though mate
I got it on release and I love it, looks are stunning, I got really into it actully helped me kick the WoW habbit.
The AI is not great but it is a really ingrossing game. I would suggest you get on with the first quest cause you get a horse and you can spend days just running it is soo huge.
Tchrin did write a review of it. Review of Oblivion (http://www.downgraded.net)
I had to stop to get some practice in for LAN and studying but once I pass I will return to the world of OBLIVION....(oh great here we go again)
its a very good game, but tbh its WAY to expended, honestly you wont do half the quests and see more then 30-50% of the world map (at least if you play like me, doing main quests and several side quests)
and once your quite high up in some factions the game gets terribly boring due to lack of new stuff to do. especialy if your archmage/listerner/greyfox etc
but at that time, you will have spend in ecess of 50 hours playing it. id give it a 8/10 for several reasons also mentioned in this thread
