Hi there,
I've got an old film on what I think is a VCD. The top level file structure looks like this:
Directory of E:
14/07/1978 00:00
EXT
14/07/1978 00:00 MPEGAV
14/07/1978 00:00 SEGMENT
14/07/1978 00:00 SVCD
0 File(s) 0 bytes
4 Dir(s) 0 bytes free
Does anyone know of a decent VCD player? I've tried the obvious selection of media players with no success, including "DivX"!
PS the MPEGAV folder contains a big .mpg file which ..... yes I cant play.
I use WinDVD which works fine. I can also play it just by selecting open and browsing to the mpeg file from DVD players. It could be encoded using a codec you don't have?
Oops just read that again. What you have is an SVCD not a VCD. I have trouble with those autoplaying (they frequently don't) however using WinDVD to browse to the mpeg file in file mode (right click on main screen and select "source" then "open file") lets it play fine.
VLC will play anything. Another useful is GSpot, it will tell you want codecs files are....

SVCD I believe is MPEG2 where VCD is MPEG1. Most standard players will not play MPEG 2.
Try here http://www.elecard.com/download/ (http://www.elecard.com/download/)
My DVD player plays all formats except DIVX so try it in you DVD.
thanks for all your help guys. Got it working. Windvd does seem the easiest I guess..... plus I downloaded a bumper pack of codecs..... not sure which ones I needed so I stuck the lot on :-)
I find the best pack of codecs to be made by Nimo and is quite readily available on kazaa or the like. Currently got pack5 build7, but there are more than likely newer ones out now.
thats what I found, the nemo ones.
