One of the games I usually come back to playing every now and again is Total Annihilation. Nothing seems to have the same appeal that TA provided, C&C Generals has come the closest so far and the original C&C stuff used to have me and my flatmate sat battling each other for 2-6 hours at a time.
Anyway, TA, it's old.
Very old by gaming standards and since the collapse of 'Cavedog' it looked like a sequel was never going to appear (There was Kingdoms, but that was fantasy based RTS). Then there were slight noises about a company getting the rights to produce TA2 back in 2004.
They died a death, but every now and again I "Google" it, just in case.
Today I noticed a new "what happened to TA2" thread on one of the old TA2 fan sites that sprang up under the rumours, so I had a quick glance, it mentioned a new game called "Supreme Commander".
Looking further into it I found that a website is up and running for it.

A little more poking around revealed this on IGN (http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/695/695946p1.html).
Its by the same bloke as TA, with the same sort of big robots and carnage, but it can't be called TA2 because they don't own the rights.
So it is TA2, but under a different name. :D
i had TA1 - was a good game back in 1995 or whatever ..

C&C: Red Alert....those were the days.
I played TA for a while. It was quite good.
TA and C&C were cool. Dewey and I used to play C&C Red alert at work for hours. Great days!

Everything there needed to get it and the mods/cracks to open the AI/skirmish/lan options...
this will tho make you unable to use the GPG network as it changes some lua files...

Release date on 20th February for U.S and Non-U.S distribution.
TA2 has finally arrived.
From the short bit of gameplay I got on the Beta, the same massive firefights, huge guns and nano building are still in there, but the map sizes are amazing.
Cheapest pre-order I found was from SendIt.

Looks like a general cockup by their packagers.
I've got the standard pack and its still got the French Map/Unit progression in it. The manual is 100% English, so its got to be the packagers.
It feels good to have epic battles again, hundreds of units all battling against the enemy, or even enemies, with this you can be fighting on two fronts against both enemy factions.
The control system and feel of the game is nice and familiar to anyone who has played the original TA. One of the changes is that you no longer mistakenly end up selecting engineers along with you battle units when
trying to rapidly deploy them against an agressor, it assumes you don't want them in there and deselects them, the same with static weaponry (holding down the shift key overrides this in case you want to).
The mission progression is good, it brings you in relatively gentally at the beginning of the mission, but escalates quite well to the end.
If you loved TA, then this is definately to be put on your shopping list right now.
I emailed THQ and they said they are sending me the English version of the "Tech Chart" in the post after supplying my details.

Played the demo, it really is programmed poorly, and it haggles a lot, giving all kinds of lag while my computer is doing nothing. Poor piece of coding that made me decide not to bother w/ the whole game.
