Hello readers :)
im looking for some feedback or posibly even some users experience on a pair of monitors i have my eye on
im in doubt between the Samsung syncmaster 930BF ( 4ms response time)
and the samsung syncmaster 940BF ( 2 ms response time)
they look pretty much the same to me ( with angle where you can actualy see a decent picture from and all )
the 940 is slightly better looks wise but its also a slight difference in price
930: â,¬ 365
940: â,¬ 440
the main issue here would be can you really tell the difference between 4 and 2 miliseconds responce time
Any feedback at all would be much appreciated, also negative responce or perhaps the monitor of your dreams :P if you had â,¬ 450 to spend on it
Topic moved to where it will get more help!

//www.tftcentral.co.uk is pretty decent source, otherwise have a look at the big comparison articles out there. //www.tomshardware.com do some every now and then. I've been looking for a TFT for ages but have been unable to make up my mind, plus the prices keep dropping... :) And a little bird told me that the best time to buy TFT is going to be May/June this year when price drops are expected. my bulky 19" crt will have to keep going a while yet!
Have a look at the viewsonic range as well as samsung. the vx922 is supposed to be a great piece of kit and is similar priced to the 940bf. I'm intrigued by the vp920 (nb not the 930, but the cheaper 920) but there's not a lot of info out there on it yet! You are unlikely to notice any difference between the 2 and 4 ms models in terms of response but not everyone sees "ghosting" as easily. There are other quality issues to consider too - do you need height/swivel, good colour for photo retouching, good levels for document editing/work, etc.
Personally I'm probably going to aim for a 20" widescreen model in about 2 months, see what happens to prices...I briefly owned a 20" dell 2005fpw but it had a screwed up 2 pixel wide line across it so it went back :(
Thx for moving it Teaelle :)
and thanks for reply mister monkey :)
hmmm.. is there perhaps a more dummy proof version of these sites?
all these figures and pictures dont say much for a tech noob like me
altho some of the pictures are pretty :P
more responce still more then welcome :)
look for user reviews on the web. I find the american pcworld (I know I know) website pretty decent for reviews (http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,123858,00.asp). Ebuyer.co.uk and amazon are also pretty good for user reviews. forums.overclockers.co.uk has a pretty decent section on monitors.
I'm afraid it's a matter of trawling through large sites and forums like those for the monitor sections for user reviews.
In terms of understanding the charts and stuff ... your best option is to skip srtaight to the conclusions pages for each monitor reviewed/tested where they sum up what it's good at and where it isn't so good. e.g. vx922 is "THE gamers monitor, but not so good for film buffs" etc...
good luck and keep us informed ;)
Quote e.g. vx922 is "THE gamers monitor, but not so good for film buffs" etc...
THE gamers monitor sounds nice, i have a TV + home cinema set for film and stuff anyways :P
thanks again mister monkey :)
Viewsonic....nuff said!! :dribble:
Fantastic screens and uber reliable....we have two in the house......and I would never buy anything else now I have one. Not cheap but worth every penny.....
You know it makes sense!  :yahoo:
I still have my Dell 2005 fpw 20" widescreen and it's lovely, not a single dead pixel, rotateable, dvi, vga, composite and s-video in, i use it for all my games, FPS, films, x-box and ps2, not got a single complaint. the picture in picture is great so i can stream music via xbox xbmc in small corner pic while in WoW :)
the response time isn't really tiny, but I play COD2, BF2 etc, without a problem (I pwn at COD2). I really advise widescreen for the extra PoV size. And at 1680 x 1040 native res it's pretty too.
plus i got it new for £198 (gotta love company schemes)
currently around £350 I think, 2 mates got one the day after they saw mine and also love em to bits, may upgrade to the 24" or 30" version next year :D
thx for reactions again
but i think ill have to go for a samsung, since i can get a viewsonic.. but they dont offer warenty on it what so ever since they normaly dont sell it but can special order it for me
so, now just to see if its gonna be the 930 or the 940 lol

Whoa, slow down partner, Viewsonic do there own warranty for three years
3 Years Manufacturer On-Site Warranty - Call Viewsonic on 0207 949 0307 for warranty on-site replacement service and D.O.A. (Email: service.eu@viewsoniceurope.com)http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/lcd19.html (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/lcd19.html)
..........and let;s face it, you do want the best don't you?!, you do deserve the best don't you?!, ...so buy the best and forget the rest.......
VIEWSONIC!!,VIEWSONIC!!,VIEWSONIC!!,VIEWSONIC!!,VIEWSONIC!!,VIEWSONIC!!,
Come on, chant along with me :D :D
well, we had contact with "mediamarkt" and they apparently dindt have good experience with viewsonic, so they are not in there base assortment, now they are willing to special order but that means i get no warenty from them if something is wrong
but they did highly recommend the samsung 940BF or the 960BF
but first im waiting for my bro to do some research, maybe if we order 2 at the same time we can haggle a bit at a "small local dealer" we normaly get our computer stuff from
and there they recommended me the samsung syncmaster 940BF or the 930BF so im tempted to go for the 940BF
seems like a good machine, and good looking to would fit in nicely with the rest of my pc gear
EDIT: i do live in holland, so all these UK sites would most likely bill me into the red figures with post and package if you know what i mean :(
( havent run across a dutch site i know that sells the viewsonics either but maybe i have to try harder lol )
Ignore your dealer Marduk, the Viewsoniuc are very good monitors. Maybe it was more a case of they make less commission on selling Viewsonic and more when they sell you a Samsung.

Yeh but could you really tell the difference between the viewsonic and the samsung?
all the extra efford and maybe no warrenty.. is it worth it?
European Law covers warranty and extra warranty is mentioned above. As for the difference between them I hav enow idea other than to read the reviews. I believe the Viewsonic won most reviews.
