Title: DVD Drive

a few days ago my dvd draive on my computer started only reading cds basically becoming a cd drive this happened after i installed and failed to run Battle for Middle Earth 2. I check the drive properties and it says its a cd not dvd drive please help me cos i cant play any game that uses a dvd disc.

re-install/update the drivers for it?

Have had this problem go to device manager and reinstall the drives by uninstalling and then rebooting. You could also check that the cables are firmly in the sockets of the dvd drive.

Cheers Suicidal. Sometimes windows detects my dvdrw as a cd drive. I this is because they weren't around when xp came out. So, they made a workaround to made xp think the cd drive could right dvd's aswell. This is noticable as some blank dvd media is recognised as blank cd's.

windows quite often labels my dvd-rw as a cd-rom, but when I shove a DVD in it it, well, just works and then windows thinks it's a DVD-rom. not failed to play a dvd yet!

Sissy, nothing like a nice explosion from time to time, allthough i seriously doubt youll be able to do that with a computer (and software).  :roflmao:
