Title: 8 year old needed.

I'm down to my last few strands of hair. The story so far. VHS goes on the blink. Not worth repairing so did some research and plumped for a Panasonic dvd/vhs combo recorder. A DMR ES30V. After loads of plugging and unplugging managed to get it working. Trouble is it doesn't seem to want to recognise my tv which is a 15year ols Sony.
Question: If I go buy a new LCD widescreen job with Freeview (I have Telewest big package) (Go my eye on Toshiba 23") will all the bits of kit talk to one another? There's a toffee in it for you if you can enlighten me.

Depends how you're connecting it all, but in essence yes.

we got a toshiba 27" widescreen lcd ... excellent thing, will do 720p, with loads of inputs (even vga and dvi!) I'm surprised about your kit not seeing eachother though. All the tv has to do is accept video&audio input, nothing more? If your setup is like ours it should go (thinking bi-directional scart) DVDthingy--telewestbox--tv, telewest box has 2 scart ports, one for tv, one for "vcr".

If you're using aerial inputs you'll want to try the tv on either AV input or retune a channel to the thing?

On the plus side it's a good excuse to get a swanky new HD res flat tv ;)
