mmmmmmm
Strange decision from Sven ....we look REALLY thin in the striker department ....
The main two are crocked with one looking really doubtful and the other only a couple of warm up matches to prove his fitness ..... the "cover" for these two are completely untried !!!!!!!
Is he REALLY still trying to win it ??????
:( :(
to be honest it is only football which is a big girls game and the only good thing is that there will be a lot of ppl out getting pissed.

If its a post about a subject you got no interest in .....why bother answering ?????
:ranting:
I have similar concerns Madness.
I'd have thought he would have Defoe down as a certain with our current striker injuires - instead he's saying Joe Cole could plays as a striker as thats his position as well as midfield??! Really? I've never Cole play as a striker  Downings in because in case he does use cole as striker.
I would like to see Walcott go, he could be another Rooney or Owen, but I would only bring him on as super sub to give him some experience and if we had the game won. To rely on an untried 17 yr old who has played no matches in the premiership over defoe, bent etc is an odd decision.
I'm also surprised to see Hargreaves in there again.. I've never been impressed with him ever. He seems very average - still good to see Lennon in there.
Shame Rooney and Owen are injured, we've got a cracking squad and quality throughout - but you do need a special player too who can dictate play like Rooney, Ronaldinho, Riquelme etc.
I also realised what a crappy strike force we have without our star players.
Crouch.. :eyebrow:
walcott..
Its a good job we've got a decent midfield. Lampards scored more goals than many of the premiership strikers.
You can have Ruud van Nistelrooij for a couple of
You can keep him

lol your kidding right .....
I'm amazed the FA had such trouble finding a new England manager with all this talent in abundance.
Peter 'Box 'o' Tricks Crouch.
Dear God. Well, he's going for broke, let's hope it pays off. Don't get Jenas, don't understand Defoe....

Have faith in the guy. He have taken you to the World Cup and you never even thought he would manage that ...
I do hope England wins the world cup ... would be nice to shut up all the bloody reporters that have been on him since the start.

It's the British way. Odd eh?
Defoe is a one trick pony whilst Walcott has the pace to unsettle defenders and will have no fear of the big occasion...because he hasn't played in one!!. Add to that the lanky Crouch who has blossomes at Liverpool and would be the perfect partner for Walcott\Owen\Rooney with his knock downs then you have a classic "English pairing"
Joe Cole for the win as he has matured in the last two seasons and reminds me of Paul Scholes at his peak.
plus of course Sven wants the runner up spot in the Group (which Sweden will win) as the draw will see the winner up against Brazil before the Final....which of course Italy will win this year!! :)
I think it's bold. I think it's either sh1t or bust. Sod the tactics of avoiding Brazil, you have to beat the best teams to win the cup so it makes no odds.
The questions are what do Defoe and Bent have to do to get into the squad? Bent, 20+ goals in an average side in the premiership. Downing intermittent season, but good when he's on song. Jenas, a bit limited internationally and I'm a Tottenham fan.
So he picks someone he's not seen play, who apparently is a god, one so good he's not had a premiership game let alone start all season.
See him go here. link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knw4vHeBo4s)
Yep, he looks quick, but he looks very quick against average defences and teams. I'm sure he is quick, but he won;t stand out like that against international teams.
I hope he does well, I really do, the concern is, that if he has a mare, then his England career could be over nefore it begins. And, I'm still worried that our options up front look weak.
Having said that, I'm right behind them...
Good luck guys with no striker!!
Lol. Cheers Ricci.
I think we've all ruled out one possibility.....What if Rooney and Owen get fit in time.
'Crisis' over. ;)
weve got plently of midfield to supply some goals.. well be fine until we play Brazil
yeah our midfield can carry the rest of the team
I see that Spurs have a new shirt sponsor

:narnar:
Reports today suggest that Walcott is quicker than Henry, which would make him like 20mph quicker than Owen on a good day....so you won't even need a midfield...just hoof the ball up from the back and he will beat ANY defender to the ball.....and it is well documented that defenders hate playing against guys with pace.
IMHO the best chance England had of winning the World Cup was in 1998/2002 when they should have used the backbone of the Man United side and added some Liverpool players to complement.
Real Madrid are the classic "fairy tale" team but they can't win anything to save their lives......respected players don't mean diddly without the passion and commitment combined with the real talent.....and in the team he has chosen you have a good deal of the former but little of the latter......be happy if we reach the quarters and then we can go back to talking about the weather.....and in that we are indeed World Class!! :D :D
So how's the weather?
Must say that usuaully in pouls and so I let England go very far, this time I haven't filled it in yet because you're missing a few players like Rooney. Must say that your views here are quit good. 8)
well, if anyone is near Reading next Thursday, you can see 'em in action.
I'm going, hopefully I'll come away impressed with Bloodclot and Owen.....
See you there if you make it....
QuoteWayne Rooney is making a startling recovery from his foot injury and is set to be fit for England's opening World Cup match.
Rooney said he could be ready for England's first pool match, The Sun reported.
Rooney suffered two fractures in his foot during an end-of-season game for Manchester United and it was feared he stood no chance of recovering in time.
However, he has been receiving regular oxygen treatment to try and speed his recovery.
He has been walking without his protective footguard for some time and will undergo a final scan to determine his fitness on Thursday.
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is desperate for the striker to be fit.
Former national boss Graham Taylor told The Sun that Rooney's improvement was fantastic news.
"Everyone knows what a key player Wayne is. Even to have him sitting on the bench against Paraguay would certainly have a galvanising effect on the rest of the squad and for Sven.
"Hopefully everyone will now have a smile on their face and we can look forward to having a great World Cup with Englishmen everywhere in a much more positive frame of mind."
Lets hope they havent rushed him. the last thing we want is him jogging onto the pitch and messing his foot up in the process.
