Ive downloaded the Folding@Home Application, and started it right now, im wondering, if ive done it correct. my team number is set to 33597, Donator is set to: Luthor. can anyone confirm this is correct or incorrect?
/Luthor
Ive just changed my username to SoG_Luthor, since apparently Luthor was taking by some inactive dude....

It could take a bit for your first WU have folded.
It will give you an estimet when it's done.
Then check the site from F@H if it has added your score.
Thanks, does it state an estimated time untill WU is completed?
That depends on which client you have installed.
If you use the one whcih has the Red flowery thing on your right side downstairs of your screen then you have the graphical client. Double click that then to see when it should be done..
If you've installed another client then probably Whitey or BlueBall can explain a bit more
Ive installed the Graphical Client.
Double click the file then so it opens a window. In there you can find your name, teamnumber, info on how many WU's you've finished and when this one will finished.
i might be very poor at doing this, it says WU End: 23:04 Sun 3 Dec 06 208d:07h:44m:13s...
i think thats a bit long time considered im sitting with a brand new computer here :S
You might have set the option for really WU's to be folded. On how many frames is it?
Mine is as an example on: 8000/20000
i think i was a bit impatient :D its on 100/10000 now before its 0... and now its put up a estimated time 1 day :)
I have just installed it on another computer put up the same Username... will that work? im a newb i know.

It will do just fine.
I use the same username & teamnumber on around 10-15 different computers.
No problem with the asking, you're doing it for a good cause!
Welcome to the team Luthor :D
TL.
Thanks for the support. Go and Borg as many PC's as you can ;) :clap2:
Welcome 8)
Actually ive considered Borging the place i work... about 500 Workstations... all turned on 24/7 or about... doing nothing at all... we contribute greatly i think...
Is it posible to run the command line client so its to obvious its running? since i dont think the firm approve it alot :D
Luthor...
Better ask before you place it on the puters. You don't want to get fired over it.
Just say what it's for and so and that with installing you are saving humanity, reinstall the ozonlair and yadayada...
Seriously though:
Check this thread made by TL: LINK (http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2890)
Then you probably know you should say to your boss that it's a program that's fold proteins and so and that when a human proteine goes wrong it could end up in diseases as: Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson's disease.
The program folds proteins aswell and helps seeing where the proteins go wrong with humans and so. So it helps against diseases. Also the program wont make their computer run slower!
Now if your boss wont listen to you...You're working with Ebenezer Scrooge. ;)
The graphical client is good to see when it's running. If you network dude can't see that he has a big 404-sign on his back.
The console version can be installed as a Windows service, so the only way to see it is to use the task manager. As DuVel says, get permission first :)
Here is a guide to installing as a service Install as service (http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12529)

Install it as a service and it runs quietly in the background. You can still see it in the process list though (task manager). However as I understand it there are ways of hiding it even from that - but they're beyond me. AFAIAA just installing it as a service hides it sufficiently that 95% of people will never know it's there. Installing it at a lower CPU cap also helps, setting it to say 25% of the CPU makes it less obvious in the process list.
TL.
I have replaced the graphic proggie with the console version.
but what if i wanna play some cz...can i shut it down and restart it after im done with playing will it go futer where it was stopt.?
and is this the same when i turn off the pc and the next morning restart folding
does it start exactly where i was..?
I never shut off F@H while gaming in CZ. For BF2 I do take it down.
And yes, if you stop it and then restart it it wil continue where you've stopped it. Also counts for the computer restart.

cheers Duv :D
I used to have to shutdown the graphic version when playing BF2 but I don't need to with the Console version.
Same here, don't shut it down for anything.
I never shut it for nutink!
TL.
Ive tried to follow the guidelines for installing F@H as a service, but i failed to make it work proper, it seems to shut down when i close the Dos Prompt. :S
I cant find the spot to put "FAH504-Console.exe -configonly"
I really cant make it work in Windows XP :S as it just fails to open the file then, cause of the unknown filename. it used to work good in Windows 98 i recall.
Luthor
do a start>run>FAH504-Console.exe -configonly
this allows you to set the system up.
Let it grab a Work unit and start. Then restart the service/reboot.
Check Process list and it shoudl be Folding happily int he list and you will have no DOS box.

:o thanks alot, ill try it right away.
Ye :D the service is installed now, and working very smooth... thanks all for the help :D now i sleep better once again.
