work issues mostly I guess. plus I tend to jump to multiplayer straight away, and not have time outside that for the sp bits. FEAR is very good though, I like to think I am savouring it ;) Think I just got to a point where I picked up a slightly more serious gun than the assault rifle...had to get shot with it first of course!

I haven't as of yet completed fear. I have been busy too. I do find it a bit repetitive being always in an office environment though. I am up to part 7 or 8 i think :). I heard about the new game via a newsletter which was sent to my inbox a few days ago. Also i am looking forward more to other games than this expansion such as hl2: episode 1 only because they have varying environments to play in.

In my opinion FEAR was divided into 3 sections. You had the 'intro', the 'office boredom' and the 'ending'. Maybe i'm a slow player, but each section took me 6 or so hours to complete. The intro was great. Wonderfully atmospheric, scary as hell (maybe i'm just a wuss), and set the scene nicely. The ending was equally beautifully atmospheric, and tied up the plot (which I thought was really good) very nicely. The office section in the middle was just fairly generic FPS faire (spelling?). Run-and-gun, no scary moments, and after a while it got boring. I reckon they should have cut the office section down to 1 or 2 hours, enough to give you time to have fun with the slowmo combat guns blazing, but not enough time to get bored of it.

Personally, I think they probably made it like that in the first place. Wrote the plot, made the game, then realised that, for an FPS, it was too short and people probably wouldn't think it was worth the cash, so they threw some padding into the middle to make the game longer. I'd have preferred it if they left it the original length, maybe knocked 5 quid off what it actually retailed for. Look at Max payne. I loved that game, thought it was well worth the cash, but on my first playthrough it only took me 9 hours or so to complete.

speak for yourselfs :P there was loads of scary stuff in the offices, like the first time you meet the cloaked goons :P

sure there is some not too good stuff in there too, but hey aint that true for most games?

I think it tried alot harder than doom 3 say for the build up to the fear parts. With doom you knew exactly where the enemies would come from but with fear it is often a pleasant surprise to see enemies appear. Although i haven't completed it yet, so far i have found myself walking through levels with hardly any enemies in. Sometimes it feels like a walk rather than playing through the game but then again with hl2 i suppose the levels were like this too. However the user got to explore the level, the view and the surroundings which added a pleasant experience, although the enemies were scattered throughout the game with some lengthy battle sequences.  Fear on the otherhand is just office after office after office. Max Payne had offices but it didn't hold too long over the same areas or similar areas instead it tried to vary its surroundings. The slow motion sequences are good and i do love the nailgun and that other gun that obilterates any soldiers in its way. The heavily armoured soldiers are a challenge and so far i have had fun, but its by no means perfect. I still stand by hl2 and am now looking for higher expectations of games i don't know if anyone else agrees but hl2 certainly raised the bar in what i expect from a game.
