Title: Cooling Problems with Asus Prem SLI
Post by: BrotherTobious on May 15, 2006, 03:12:13 PM
Right this is a long one and I appologise.

I am having trouble with keeping my system cool. Now I know my GPU is going to get hot because it was pre o/c and I have just o/c my cpu. Which I understand will increase the tempture.

I my basic running with no load is 117F for the GPU , 93F for the CPU and 92F for my mobo. I think this is a little warm for the mobo.

I have tried to get my cpu fan to run faster using Ntune but for some reason it is not giving me the options to play with the fan settings. If I increase the fan speed will it help dissipate the from the heat pipe. Does anyone know how to get all the options open using Ntune?

The other option is to stick a better fan in but will that really make more differnece to it. I am using the AMD retail HS and Fan for the CPU. Or is it a case more of airflow. I have a lan-li case but I think that the GFX card is ristricting the movemt of the air as it is so large.
So I am thinking of a couple of Fans in the 5 and half bays but I am not sure how good they really are. So if you used them any info would be great.

The final and most expensive route is to watercool it but I know that I could do the CPU and the GPU but what the unkown is the north bridge, could I remove the pipe and stick another contact there.

I am thinking of the Zalman http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=223217 (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=223217) with the extra north bridge sink.

So to sum up.

1. Is it running too hot.
2. Anyone how to use Ntune
3. More fans and recommends
4 Watercooling advice with the north bridge cool pipe issues.

Any help would be greatfully recived.

All those temps are too hot.

FIRST:
Take you CPU off and re-seat it properly using proper thermal compound, like Arctic Silver.  None of this thermal pad or vendor goop crap.  Do the same for your graphics card if you can.

SECOND:
If you have a Lian Li then you almost certainly have a top blow hole - make sure the fan in that area is actually plugged in to a power source!!  Check the front and rear fans too!

THIRD:
Check the filter in the front of your Lian Li is not blocked by your carpet or totally dust clogged.

Then report back!

just to check ... in metric (thankyou google conversion widgetry) that's 47C for the gpu and about 34C for each of the cpu and motherboard? The only thing there that seems odd to me is the lack of difference between the mobo and the cpu. With current ambient moving towards spring I'd be very very happy with temperatures as low as all those

p.s. just read some rather good reviews for the Zalman vf900 VGA cooler (better and quieter than the x1900xt, 6800ultra coolers in a few reviews I just read...) if you're interested in changing that...
