This is an early headsup that we are going to have to start to fund the community to keep it going.
We calculate that we will need to raise £100 per month to cover the costs of hosting and bandwidth.
When you consider our rackspace and bandwidth usage this is still a very good deal and it would make no sense to even consider looking for a better one.
What we need to decide (quite quickly) is how to raise the funds from the membership to cover our costs. Your suggestions are most welcome but please keep this discussion within this section only for now please.
a sad day but not completely unexpected.
Who should we ask to pay and how much?
Should we have different levels of payment for different levels of membership?
Should Admins pay more (or less?)
or, to put it another way, I think we got lotsa questions we need to answer. What sort of timescales are we looking at? How quickly do we need to act?
100 people paying £1/month would cover it :D

Which people?
More questions than answers are expected :P
I'm amazed it lasted this long. The difficult thing will be to gather the folks who are willing and able to cough up. I reckon those of us that have control to whatever degree will be the ones to carry dMw. I'll start by saying I'm good for my share whatever it may be. There MUST be 20 people who would gladly stump up £60 a year! Peanuts!
EDIT: I've just had a look at the various admins and I reckon you can count on at least 10 members to kick in. £10 a month. This must not turn into a problem. (Am I starting to sound hysterical?)

I don't see the amount needed as a problem.
It's what we have to do to keep the structure fair. For example, should those that pay have added benefits to those that don't?
Do we have a deadline to meet? How's about a Teamspeak pow WoW?

Mmm, it still escapes you.
Don't forget the option to add Affliates to our website under the revamp with the new software. If enough people use it then it could well add up to that amount anyway according to G's experience with it on SEKA.
TS chat is a good idea, Wedenesday night is best for me.

Will do.
We need to ressurect this. I suggest we meet on Saturday night at 8pm UK time on a Teamspeak server to discuss. The SoG one is available, the Ventrillo one is not big enough and I do not know if the dMr TS server is still up (I am at work and cannot check).
Who can be there?

I'm out for the night. :(
I might be available some time in the afternoons ....both Sat/Sun ..if that helps...otherwise I am back on days shift next week so could be around sometime after 7 most nights ..
Whilst browsing this forum .... I've just read this and wondered what the latest news was on it.
I seem to recall that there was a discussion about funding and subscriptions in the 'open' forum last summer but nothing was decided.
Is this no longer a problem or is the Community surviving ?
I know the LAN's etc normally generate a few hundred squidlies but that can't be enough to sustain it - surely?

At present we are funding the community from LAN funds. This is not ideal as it means we lose any chance of building up any sort of contingency fund. It also means that the LAN attendees are keeping us afloat financialy. This is also less than ideal or fair.
It's time, again, to make an appeal to the community as a whole to do what they can to support us. Expect a 'TeaLeaf Special' soon.

Yeah good call, the last public appeal was in Oct 05 so it's probably time
Also good to have an appeal before the LAN as the community funds will look less healthy).
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help

vBulletin supports a number of systems to automate a subscription process. At the moment this means we need to consider Paypal, Nochex, Worldpay, Authorize.net, 2Checkout, Moneybookers & CCbill.

Conclusion:
We have previously used Paypal so I would intend to offer this again. I also think the MOneybookers & Nochex offerings are good.
I have today set up 'dMw' accounts with Paypal, Nochex & Moneybookers.
I have activated these three payment options in the Admincp.
All that remains is to figure out how the heck the admincp handles everything and how we set up subscription access! We also need to go play with the CMPS and get it into some sort of state where it is usable as a lot of the play text is just no longer relevant.

I don't think we should be doing that. Folding is something people should want to do for the right reasons, not to save a few pounds.
