Title: Molten Core - SoG Speed Record Attempt
Post by: TeaLeaf on May 26, 2006, 10:03:34 AM
As mentioned after last night's leisurely clearance of Molten Core (2hrs 36 mins and we weren't even rushing), we want to do a speed clearance attempt to see just how fast we can clear Molten Core.  We're not aiming for Axemen speed, just to have a bit of fun and spice up what is otherwise a fairly mundane night for RG1 ;)

Our official aim would be to clear MC in less than 2 hours (whether this is possible, or just how much less than 2 hours is still to be seen).

The date for this record attempt is still to be decided, but I thought it would be helpful to start the preparations by asking everyone to list the potions, elixirs, flasks, foods and drinks they would like to have available for the attempt.

Here's a starter, please add to it anything you would like to see available for the run and preferrably the class you expect to use or need it:

Flask of Distilled Wisdom for healers for an extra 2,000 mana

Flask of Supreme Power for DPS casters

Magic Resistance potions for extra resistance during some boss fights

Mongoose Potions for melee

Elixir of Shadow power for Locks
Greater Arcane Elixir for Mages

Greater Arcane Protection potion for tank/melee for Shazzrah
Greater Fire Protection potion 1 or 2 per person

Major Healing Potions
Major Mana Potions
Heavy Runecloth Bandages

Major Troll's Blood potion
Mageblood potion

Brilliant Wizard Oil
Brilliant Mana Oil

Flask of Titans? for the main tanks (these are very expensive, but might be nice to give us a buffer for mistakes?)

Suggestions Edited In From Below:

Winterspring Firewater for Physical attack users
Blasted lands 1hour potions
Elixir of Giants
Great Rage Potions
The plants you can harvest in feralas (can not think of the name except nightdragons breath)
Songflower Serenade (http://www.thottbot.com/?qu=-115)  - increases melee ranged or spell critical by 5% and all other attributes by 15 for one hour
greater dreamless sleep potions - regain mana and health faster
There is also a quest in winterspring like the quests in lasted lands( kill things collect drops hand in for a buff).
Onyxia and/or Zandalaar buff.

Tactics suggestions:
AOE Sulfuron adds

Just what i thought of fast is

Winterspring Firewater for Physical attack users
Blasted lands 1hour potions

also using greater arcane pots on melee they can help some on shazzrah with quick run ins, just don't have to many at a time and some healers watching them. Same with Baron if melee time there runs well you can put a specific Melee bomb spot and they run in between AoEs

edit: Also quickest way to kill sulfuron is to AoE the adds, should test this before trying the speed run

The plants you can harvest in feralas (can not think of the name except nightdragons breath) For the dps casters find a songflower has a nice buff for 1 or 2 hours.
To regain mana and health faster you could use greater dreamless sleep potions.
There is also a quest in winterspring like the quests in lasted lands( kill things collect drops hand in for a buff). And ofc onyxia and zandalaar buff.
Thats all i can think off atm.

i can make Flask of Supreme Power for DPS casters if needed

also working on a stack of Mongoose pots already to hand out during raid and saving up mats for major mana pots and mageblood potion

only spend this morning in EPL but i have 15 mongoose ready and i would say mats for 5 mana pots

if we all grind a few hours for this raid im pretty sure we can all have all the pots we need

and if needed for fire protection pots i can always transemute elemental fire to heart of fire of course

You could also add elixir of firepower/frostpower for mages. +15 per school, not much.

You can also get the buff from blackfathom deeps and take an alt to kill ony and get buff :D

Aye, we would need to prepare for this and have all handed out before the raid started to avoid delays.  Prep work and some grinding for mats will be vital.

Btw, I ought to point out that invites for this raid might be a little different than normal as the Officers are likely to pick specific people for the best overall raid performance and will probably not rely on a whisper invite system.

As I'm no herbalist and can't farm for any flowers used in potions, I would be glad for hints on other stuff (what and where) that I can farm which is also needed :)

The Felwood plants are called and doing the following:

Night Dragons Breath: > Use: Restores 394 to 456 mana and 394 to 456 health.

Whipper Root Tuber: > Use: Restores 700 to 900 health.

Both plants are working on a different timer then all other potions and stuff. You can use a Mana Pot, Night Dragons Breath, Wipper Root Tuber, and a Healthstone al directly after each other.

Another Tactical change that can speed a run up but highly risky for an unfocused raid.

Baron Geddon

Tank him in front of the tunnel opening while the raid force all stands in the opening(not going back into Garr's room)

With the bomb you run into the tunnel and blow up there(no fall damage there).

Problem with this tactic is that if one person doesn't run with the bomb he bombs the whole raid instead just his group.

Now the room baron patrols is just as big as Garr's room and with clearing 1 more pack you can put up the same circle as in Garr's room and kill Shazzrah in that room. This removes the whole need of running back to Garr's room.

so i have put in a couple of hours worth of riding around looking for herbs,
and i have come up with the following pots

20 mongoose pots
10 greater dreamless sleep
10 mageblood potios
10 giants pots ( at dajo's request)
5 major trolls blood pots

plus some mana potions for myself and have a bunch of herbs left for half stacks of pots and stuff

guess this could help out a couple of people pump out more DPS or healing, so if all of our alchy people could do a lil to ( i know luna is working on a few pots to ) this could really help the raid

or maybe enchanters could bring those +dmg temp enchants or + mana regen that would really be cool to

just everybody doing there small bit would shave off couple of extra moments that we need for a speed pull :)

we have a long time to go, lets not use that as an excuse to not do anything yet but to be extra prepared :P

Early suggestions are that the Speed Run will be this week, on THURSDAY.  Details still to be confirmed in Officer's channel, but we will post confirmation shortly.

Nooooooooo :(

This Thursday will most likely be the last day of raiding I miss due to school (turning in my last assignment on Friday).  But if you make a record now, I assume we'll have to do another atempt later to break it ;)

Wow, hold on perhaps? Why so fast? :)

Do it next week, when we prepared all the pots, talked about the tactics, etc. Give people some time to absooorb. :)

Due to one of the main tanks being unavailable we will not be doing it this Thursday.  As for the rush, it was not a rush, we had a week to consider and absorb and prepare.  Many people have already collected mats and preparing potions and elixirs.  In any case it is not going to happen Thursday now.  More details to follow.

I am definitely up for this if you require dps/tank :P

btw just an addition to these are the sharpening stones, I can make elemental (+crit) sharpening stones, for 2 elemental earth + 3 dense stone each, useful for dps warrs and rogues, plus it wont remove any other thing so it's not a case of either/or. unless you want dense sharp. stones

also, anyone with good AD rep, go get the blessed sunfruit as this adds str for 10 mins (you dont need to eat for a length of time, just start eating).

also consider having tanks in groups with rogues for BS

Yeah, im gonna go on R.O.I.D.S = 50str + Elixer of Giants = 25 strg = 75 str.
Don't think the Sunfruit stacks with that, but its nice for then we RO.I.D.S. is gone.

Further then that, give me the most powerfull rogues in group, since I think I have the highest battleshout atm: 290. If I get 1 more Wrath Item I can make it go even higher.

My dream group would be:
1. Menedil (in his old uberdamage spec)
2. Bastet
3. Ashjen (for the trueshot)
4. A feral druid for the 3% extra crit chance :o
5. Me

Sagefish Delight
Requires Level 30
Use: Restores 840 health and 1260 mana over 21 sec. Must remain seated while eating. If you spend at least 10 seconds eating you will become well fed and gain 6 Mana every 5 seconds for 15 min

Healers WILL need to think about healing rotations so 1 group can mana up, the other can heal :D

I made an acc on the website to sign up for the speed run, but this is what I'm seeing:

QuoteYou are logged in but you do not have access to signup for raids!
Please contact the Raid Leader for access!

btw can only RG1 members sign up or RG2 members too?
